Fact Check: 2019 Video Of Andhra Dy CM Pawan Kalyan Eating Biryani, Shared As Recent Iftar Party Claim

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video of Jana Sena Party founder and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan is becoming increasingly viral on social media. In the video, the former actor can be seen dinning with some people, wearing an Islamic prayer cap. The video is being claimed to be of recent origin with the assertion that he was seen attending an Iftar party.

Vishvas News found in its investigation that the claim is false. The viral video is not recent but from the year 2019. During the election campaign, Kalyan had reached the house of Guntur East Jana Sena Vidhan Sabha candidate Sheikh Ziaur Rahman to have lunch.

What is going viral?

Facebook user ‘Jitendra Kumar Yadav’ (Archive Link) shared the viral video and wrote in the caption, “Joseph Vijay Chandrashekhar participating enthusiastically in the Iftar party, some jealous BJP members will say that he is the protector of Hindu religion. Rajesh Yaduvanshi.”

Investigation

To find out the truth of the viral claim, we extracted several key frames of the video with the help of the Invid tool and searched those with the help of Google’s reverse image search technology. We found a related report on the website of The Hans India. The report was published on March 25, 2019. According to the report, during the 2019 election campaign, Kalyan was eating biryani at the house of his party, Janasena’s candidate in Guntur.

Based on the information received, we searched on the web with the help of relevant keywords. We found a video related to the claim on a YouTube channel named Filmy Fox. The video was shared on March 26, 2019. According to the information available, the viral video is from the election campaign held in 2019. 

During the investigation, we found some pictures related to the viral video on the official Facebook page of Jana Sena Party. The pictures were shared on March 25, 2019. According to the caption, the pictures belong to Jana Sena’s Guntur East candidate Sheikh Ziaur Rahman. 

For more information, we contacted Guntur local journalist Mallikarjuna. He confirmed that the video was shot during the 2019 election campaign.

According to a report published on Aaj Tak’s website on June 12, 2024, there is a coalition government of TDP, Janasena and BJP in Andhra Pradesh. In the state assembly elections, TDP won 135 seats, Janasena won 21 seats and BJP won 8 seats. The party is a constituent of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance. 

Finally, we scanned the account of the user who shared the video with the misleading claim. We found that the user shares posts related to a particular ideology and his account is followed by more than 1,000 users.

Conclusion: Vishvas News found in its investigation that a claim featuring a viral video of Pawan Kalyan attending an Iftar party is fake. The video is not recent but from the year 2019. During the election campaign, he was seen having lunch at the Guntur East Jana Sena assembly candidate Sheikh Ziaur Rahman.
