Fact Check: Old Video Of Congress Rally At Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan Falsely Shared As Recent

New Delhi (Vishvas News): The opposition INDIA block (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) has expressed dissatisfaction with the Election Commission’s stance on the ongoing ‘Special Intensive Revision’ (SIR) of electoral rolls. To protest against this issue, opposition parties led by Rahul Gandhi, the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha organised a massive rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on November 1, 2026. Against this backdrop, a video showing a large crowd is going viral on social media. The video is being shared with the claim that it shows the November 1 rally held in Delhi against the Election Commission.
Vishvas News found the viral claim as misleading during its investigation. This viral video actually shows a Congress rally held in December 2025 over allegations of ‘vote theft’. It is being falsely shared as footage of a recent event.
What is Going Viral?
Facebook user ‘Arish Anwar’ shared a video on November 1, 2026 and wrote in the caption, “It is not even 12 o’clock yet, half the day has not even passed, and a massive sea of people has converged at Delhi’s historic Ramlila Maidan with the resolve to protect the country’s democracy and Constitution. This is not just a rally, but a collective surge of voices rising for democracy, the Constitution, and the people’s right to vote. The voice is loud, the intentions are strong. The entire country is in the field with the resolve to protect democracy.”

Investigation
To verify the viral claim, we extracted several keyframes from the video and conducted a reverse image search using Google Lens. We found the viral video on the official Facebook page of the ‘Indian National Congress’. This video was shared on December 14, 2025. According to the post, the video is from a rally held by the Congress party.

During our investigation, we found a longer video of the same rally, held in 2025, on the Congress’s official Facebook page. The video was posted on December 14, 2025. According to the post, the rally was organised by the Congress at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi to protest against alleged ‘vote theft’.

Taking the investigation further, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords. We found a news report related to the claim on the ‘Dainik Jagran’ website. This report was published on December 14, 2025. According to the report, the Congress party organised a mega rally titled ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhor’ at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi. A large number of people attended this rally, with party workers from various states also present. The Congress staged a protest against the Central Government over allegation of vote theft and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

For more information, we contacted Nimesh Kumar, a New Delhi-based reporter for Dainik Jagran. He confirmed that the viral video is around a year old.
What is the Context?
Protesting against the functioning of the Election Commission and alleged irregularities in the SIR process, the INDIA bloc organised a mega rally titled ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ on November 1, 2026, at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi. A protest march was also held at the Minto Road–Connaught Place junction area. This rally was attended by several prominent opposition leaders, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, and All India Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee. Finally, we scanned the Facebook profile of the user who shared the video with the misleading claim. We found that this user has been active on Facebook since April 28, 2019, and has around 42,000 followers.
