New Delhi (Vishvas News): A video clip of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and current MP Akhilesh Yadav attending an Iftar party is going viral on social media. Users claim that while he skipped the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, he made sure to attend the Iftar party during Ramadan.
Vishvas News, in its investigation, found this claim to be fake and politically motivated. Our investigation confirms that Akhilesh took a holy dip at Triveni Sangam on January 26, 2025. Speaking to the media, he stated that he took the ritual dip 11 times.
What is viral?
The social media user ‘Troll Indian Politics’ shared a viral video clip claiming that he did not visit Maha Kumbh but attended Iftar.
Many other users across different social media platforms have also shared this video with similar claims.
Investigation
In the viral video, Yadav is seen attending an Iftar party. A news search led us to the viral video uploaded on the official YouTube channel of News9 Live.
According to the information provided, this video is from an Iftar party organised in Lucknow. We also found this video featured in other news reports, showing other senior party leaders present with him.
Next, we investigated the claim that Yadav did not visit the Maha Kumbh. Our search revealed multiple reports confirming that he did take a holy dip during the Maha Kumbh held in Prayagraj.
According to a January 26, 2025, report by India Today, “Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav took part in the spiritual festival of Maha Kumbh 2025 by taking a dip in the holy Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj. Speaking to India Today, he said that he took a dip in the Sangam 11 times.”
Other news reports also confirm that he took a holy dip in the Sangam.
As per a report by Jagran.com, “Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav reached Prayagraj on Sunday afternoon. He headed straight to Sangam from Bamrauli Airport. His son Arjun Yadav was also present with him. The SP chief took a dip in the Sangam along with his son, after which he headed straight to Sector 16. There he offered flowers to the statue of Mulayam Singh Yadav and took his blessings.”
Our investigation confirms that the claim stating that Akhilesh did not attend Maha Kumbh is false. He, along with his son, took a holy dip in Sangam.
To verify the viral claim, we contacted Rakesh Pandey, the Editorial In-charge of Dainik Jagran, Prayagraj. He confirmed that Akhilesh visited the Maha Kumbh and took a holy dip in Sangam.
The Facebook user who shared the viral video with the fake claim has around three lakh followers.
