Fact Check: AI-Generated Image Of Crashed Plane Falsely Linked to Ahmedabad Incident

New Delhi (Vishvas News). After the crash of Air India plane in Ahmedabad, a picture of a crashed aircraft is going viral on social media. The image is being shared with the claim that it shows the aftermath of the Ahmedabad crash.
Vishvas News found in its investigation that this claim is false. This picture is AI-generated.
What is viral?
Facebook user Houston Desis shared the viral picture (archive link) on 13 May 2025, linking it to the Air India crash, and wrote “Life is so short, we never know from where what comes. This tragedy made every one sad and our prayers for the families.”
Investigation
To investigate this post, we first looked at the picture carefully. In the image, the entire plane has entered a building, whereas in the incident that happened in Ahmedabad, the plane collided with the building and fell near it. These inconsistencies raised suspicions that the image may have been made using AI.
To verify further, we decided to analyse the image using the AI image detection tools. Hive Moderation, indicated a 99.8 % probability of the picture being AI-generated.
SightEngine also indicated a 99% probability of the image being AI-generated.
Another tool ‘Is It AI’ also showed a 99 percent probability of it being AI-generated.
We shared the viral post with Azhar Machwe, who works in AI and emerging technology. He said that the photo is AI-generated.
We also reached out to Shatrughan Sharma, senior correspondent at Dainik Jagran in Gujarat, who is covering the Ahmedabad crash. He confirmed that the plane hit a hostel for medical students and partially damaged the building, but did not crash into it in the manner shown in the viral image.
The Facebook user Houston Desis, who shared the viral photo, is followed by more than 63 thousand users.
