Fact Check: Old Video Of Bridge Collapse In Bihar Shared As Recent Ahead Of Elections

New Delhi (Vishvas News): As the Bihar Assembly elections approach, social media is witnessing a surge in misinformation and misleading content . One such misleading content involves a video showing a collapsed bridge, which is being shared with claims that it depicts a recent incident.
Vishvas News investigated this post and found it to be misleading. This video dates back to March 2024, when a portion of an under-construction bridge collapsed in Bihar.
What is going viral
Facebook user ‘Janchowk’ uploaded a video of a collapsed bridge on July 28, 2025, with the caption, “The bridge worth Rs 1200 crore being built on the Kosi river between Supaul-Madhubani collapsed. Many workers were buried under the debris, some were injured and some were feared dead.”
Investigation
To verify the authenticity of the video, we extracted several keyframes and conducted a Google Lens search. The result revealed that the same video had been widely shared on social media in March 2024.
Based on it, we conducted a keyword search and found multiple credible news reports about this incident that took place on March 22, 2024. Many of the same frames appeared in a news video published on Bihar Tak’s YouTube channel.
News18 Bihar-Jharkhand also featured similar visuals and reported the same event on March 22, 2024.
According to a Times Of India report dated March 22, 2024, “A labourer was killed while several others are feared trapped after a portion of an under-construction bridge collapsed in Bihar’s Supaul district on Friday morning. The 10.2km bridge over the Koshi river, linking Bheja in Madhubani with Bakaur in Supaul district, was being constructed by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).”
To verify further, we contacted Arun Ashesh, a journalist with Dainik Jagran (Bihar), who confirmed that the viral video is from the March 2024 incident.
Facebook user Janchowk, who shared the viral video with a false claim, has over 30000 followers.
