Fact Check:  Priyanka Gandhi’s ‘Tere Naam’ Remark On PM Modi Is From 2023, Shared In Misleading Context

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video of Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is going viral on social media, where she is seen comparing Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Salman Khan’s character from the film Tere Naam. It is being claimed that she made this remark recently, following the controversy over offensive comments made on PM Modi and his mother from a Congress-RJD stage. 

Vishvas News’ investigation found this claim to be fake. Actually this video is from 2023 when Priyanka Gandhi addressed a public rally in Datia, Madhya Pradesh. 

What is going viral

Instagram user bjp4.bharatiya shared this video on September 5 2025 in which Priyanka Gandhi says, “And don’t even ask about Modi ji… He is the first Prime Minister who remains troubled by his own pain. Have you seen Salman Khan’s movie *Tere Naam? He keeps crying in that. I say, we should make a movie for Modi ji as well and name it Mere Naam.” Sharing the video, user wrote, “Priyanka Gandhi happily justified the abuse of PM Modi’s mother! First, the Congress abused Modi ji’s mother from the stage and now it is making fun of him from the same stage.”

Investigation

Upon searching the key frames of this viral video with Google Lens, we found this video clip of Priyanka Gandhi on many social media posts of 2023. This makes it clear that the video is not recent, but old.

We also found this video uploaded on the Facebook page of news agency ANI on November 15, 2023.

ANI also shared it on X the same day, stating it was from a rally in Datia, Madhya Pradesh.

News reports from Live Mint and others dated November 15, 2023 also covered the speech, confirming it was from the Madhya Pradesh polls.

We spoke to Datia-based journalist Kuldeep Saxena, who covered this rally in 2023. He confirmed that this video is of a public meeting held in November 2023 before the elections.

The misleading claim emerged after recent controversy during the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Darbhanga, where indecent remarks were made about PM Modi and his mother. In response, PM Modi condemned the incident, calling it an insult to the nation’s mothers, sisters, and daughters.

At the end of the investigation, Vishvas News investigated the Instagram page ‘bjp4.bharatiya’ that posted the misleading post. The page has more than 1.75 lakh followers.

Conclusion: Vishvas News found in its investigation that this video of Priyanka Gandhi comparing Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Salman Khan’s character in the film ‘Tere Naam’ is from 2023.
