Fact Check: Fake Post Claiming Navjot Singh Sidhu Made A Statement Regarding Ajit Agarkar And Gautam Gambhir Goes Viral

New Delhi (Vishvas News). Amid the ongoing India-Australia series, a post attributed to former Team India cricketer and commentator Navjot Singh Sidhu has gone viral on social media. The post claims that Sidhu told the BCCI, “If India wants to win the 2027 World Cup, Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir should be removed and Rohit Sharma should be made captain again.” Many users are sharing this post, believing it to be true.
Vishvas News, in its investigation, found this claim to be false. Sidhu has not made any such statement. A fake quote is being shared on social media in his name, which Sidhu himself has publicly denied.

Facebook user ‘Cricket Hub’ shared the viral post (archived link) on October 19, 2025, with the caption, “Navjot Singh Sidhu said – If India wants to win the 2027 ODI World Cup, the BCCI should immediately remove Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir and respectfully reinstate Rohit Sharma as captain.”
Investigation
To verify the authenticity of the viral claim, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords and found several media reports addressing it. One such report, published on tv9hindi.com, on October 20, 2025, stated, “A fake post attributed to Navjot Singh Sidhu is circulating on social media” The post falsely attributed the following quote to Sidhu: “If India wants to win the 2027 World Cup, the BCCI should immediately remove Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir and respectfully make Rohit Sharma captain again.” After the post went viral, Sidhu shared a post on X (formerly Twitter), dismissing the claim as false.
After the claim went viral, Sidhu shared a post on X , refuting the claim.
During the investigation, we found several other news reports that also described the viral claim as fake.
Continuing the investigation, we searched Sidhu’s social media handles and found a post on his verified X handle dated October 20, 2025. It reads, “Never said it , don’t spread fake news ,never imagined it. Shame on you.”
We reached out to Abhishek Tripathi, Sports Editor at Dainik Jagran, and shared the viral message with him. He confirmed that it is fake, stating that Sidhu had not made any such statement.
Lastly, we scanned the profile of the user who posted the viral post and found that the user has around 6000 followers.
Conclusion: Vishvas News found the viral claim to be fake. Navjot Singh Sidhu has not made any such statement regarding Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir, and he personally denied the claim in a post. The statement circulating on social media attributed to him is false.
