An investigation by Vishvas News has revealed that the viral post is misleading. An old video of a protest in Mohali is being circulated with false claims, falsely presenting it as footage of a protest in Delhi. The viral video dates back to March 2011 and has no connection to Delhi.

New Delhi (Vishvas News). Protests were witnessed in Delhi and several other parts of the country in October 2026, involving the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP), various opposition parties including the Congress, and student organisations demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

A video related to this protest is viral on social media. Police officers are seen mistreating a young man wearing a Sikh turban in the video. It has been linked to Delhi, with claims that the young man in the Sikh turban is a Muslim.

Vishvas News investigated the viral post and found that the video is not from Delhi, but from Mohali. The footage shows an incident that took place in Mohali, Punjab, on March 28, 2011. It is now being falsely linked to a protest in Delhi.

Investigation

Vishvas News had previously investigated this viral video. It also went viral in 2019 with a false claim. During our investigation, we first extracted several keyframes from the viral video and conducted a Google reverse image search. We found a report published on ‘Sikhnet.com’ on March 31, 2011. According to the report, “on March 28, 2011, people associated with the rural veterinary pharmacists’ sector were holding a peaceful protest near the PCA Stadium in Mohali. Some police personnel mistreated a Sikh youth in this protest.

We also found a report published in ‘The Times of India’ dated March 31, 2011. It stated that on March 28, 2011during a protest by rural veterinary pharmacists near the PCA Stadium in Mohali, SP Pritam Singh and the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Phase 8 police station, Kulbhushan Singh, were suspended following the allegations that they had mistreated a Sikh youth.

During its previous investigation, Vishvas News contacted Satvinder Dhadhak, Mohali district-in-charge reporter for ‘Punjabi Jagran’, who had covered the protest. He stated, “In 2011, pharmacists in Punjab were protesting outside the PCA Stadium. A police officer misbehaved with a Sikh protester during the event. Action was taken against the police officers involved, and two of them were suspended.”

What is the context?

In Delhi and several other parts of the country, various opposition parties, including the Congress held a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. They alleged that ‘vote theft’ was taking place under the pretext of a ‘Special Intensive Revision’ (SIR) of the electoral rolls.

On October 12, 2026, the Congress and its alliance partners held a march in Delhi. Rahul Gandhi and several opposition leaders approached the Supreme Court after this march and a petition against the Election Commission and the SIR process was filed. Further details can be found in a report published by ‘BBC Hindi’ on October 12, 2026.

Thousands of people were taken into custody during protests in Delhi on October 10 and 11, 2026. Despite no permission for demonstrations at the Jantar Mantar, thousands of people gathered across various parts of Delhi. More details can be found on this in a report published by ‘Jagran.com’.
