Fact Check: Deepfake Video Falsely Claims Amit Shah Called Indian Army ‘Army of Hindutva/RSS’

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video going viral on social media claims that Union Home Minister Amit Shah referred to the Indian Army as the ‘Army of Hindutva’ and the ‘Army of the RSS’.

Vishvas News investigated the viral claim and found the video to be a deepfake edited using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

What’s viral?

Facebook user ‘Annu Malik’ shared the viral video (archived link) on October 29, 2025, where the Union Home Minister Amit Shah can allegedly be heard saying, “I’ve been hearing a lot of nonsense on social media these days from Congress and AAP members, repeatedly claiming that the Indian Army is being ‘saffronised.’ And now our Army is becoming the army of one party. I’m saying this to the whole world with my 56-inch chest puffed with pride: the Indian Army is the army of Hindutva, the army of the RSS. This is not the army of any Muslim, any Dalit, or any Christian. Anyone who has an issue with this Army should go to Pakistan. We consider our Army the army of a Hindu state.”

Sharing the video, the user wrote, “Home Minister Amit Shah has given a sharp reply to Lieutenant General Ghai. In his recent statement, Amit Shah openly expressed his desire to ‘saffronise’ the Indian Army. He said that anyone who disagrees with the politicisation of the Indian Army should be sent back to Pakistan, because it is, and will remain, essentially a Hindutva army.”

Investigation

To investigate the authenticity of this post, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords and found no credible reports verifying the claim.

A reverse image search traced the original footage to a public rally addressed by Shah in Munger, Bihar, on October 25, 2025, live-streamed on his official YouTube channel. We listened to the complete speech but did not find the controversial statements anywhere in the original clip.

Upon closely inspecting the viral clip, we noticed a few tell-tale signs of AI manipulation, such as blurred areas around the speaker’s lips and unnatural synchronisation between the lip movements and the audio.

For further verification, we contacted our partner, Deepfakes Analysis Unit (DAU), an initiative of the Trusted Information Alliance (TIA), whose expert team analysed the video using the detection tools.  Hive AI’s video detector found several segments where the video track shows AI manipulation.

We also checked this video using the University of Buffalo’s Deepfake-O-Meter, and several indicators on the tool confirmed AI manipulation in this video.

We also spoke with Azhar Machwe, a researcher working in AI and emerging technology, who confirmed that the video had been edited using AI.

The video is circulating ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections (scheduled for November 6 and 11, 2025). This incident follows another recent deepfake video targeting a senior military officer, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, falsely depicting him speaking about the ‘saffronisation’ of the Indian Army. Facebook user Anu Malik, who shared the viral video, has over 2000 followers.

Conclusion: Vishvas News’ investigation found that this viral video showing Union Home Minister Amit Shah making remarks about the ‘saffronisation’ of the Indian Army and calling it the ‘army of Hindutva’ or the ‘army of the RSS’ is fabricated. It is an AI-generated deepfake created by digitally manipulating footage from his October 25, 2025, rally in Munger, Bihar.
