What’s Going Viral?
Facebook user ‘Try Ppord ’ (Archive Link) shared this picture on July 7, 2025, with the caption, “Breaking News: just happened in New York. I just still need to know how does this keep happening? How do people’s kids continue to end up in the cage? The gorilla’s gentle side: he won’t even touch the baby girl.”
Investigation:
To investigate the viral post, we analysed the video closely and found a few discrepancies. For instance, while the gorilla hands over the baby to the woman, his hand mysteriously passes through the woman’s hand. Also, the gorilla’s walk seemed suspicious. These inconsistencies raised suspicions that the video might be AI-generated.
To verify further, we decided to analyse the video using the AI detection tools. ‘Was It AI’ video detector indicated a high confidence score that the video or a part of the video was AI-generated.
Another AI detection tool, Hive Moderation, indicated a 99% probability of the video being AI-manipulated.
We also contacted AI expert Azahar Machwe, who confirmed that this video is AI-manipulated.
To verify the origin of the video, we conducted a Google Lens search on the keyframes of the video and found the original video on a YouTube channel named ‘AI-Videos-Arg’ with the title ‘Zoo Gorilla Gives Baby Back To Mother’ uploaded on June 29, 2025. The channel’s intro mentions that the content has been created using AI tools.
Finally, we scanned the Facebook profile of Try Ppord and found that the user has over 100 followers.
Conclusion: Vishvas News, in its investigation, found that the viral video of a gorilla gently handing over a baby to a woman is AI-generated.
