Fact Check: This Video Of Trump Announcing Ban On Tesla Is A DeepFake

The viral video of President Trump announcing Tesla ban is a deepfake. The authentic White House video contains no such announcement.

New Delhi (Vishvas News): A video of US President Donald Trump is viral on social media, where he can be allegedly seen announcing a ban on Tesla production in the United States.

Vishvas News investigated the viral clip and found that it is a deepfake video.

What is in the viral post

Instagram user eietv1 (archived link) shared the post on June 9, 2025. In the video, President Trump can be supposedly heard saying: “Today I am here to announce that I will be banning the production of all Teslas in the United States of America effective immediately. As everyone knows Elon stabbed me in the back a couple of days ago and went crazy on his platform, X, lying about my involvement in the Epstein files. Nobody likes Teslas anyways, unless you’re a nerd, they catch fire and break down easily…. ”

Investigation

We began our investigation with a keyword search to find out if President Trump had made such an announcement. We found no authentic reports confirming it. If he had made such a statement, it would have been widely reported.

We noticed that many users in the comments section wrote AI, suggesting the video might be AI-generated.

To check if the clip is AI-generated, we contacted our partner Deepfakes Analysis Unit (DAU), an initiative of the Misinformation Combat Alliance (MCA). Here’s what the tools found:

1) Hive AI Deepfake Detector: Several frames of Trump’s face were flagged as “yes_deepfake” by the tool.

2) Hive AI Audio Classifier: With the exception of the initial 10 seconds, the remainder of the audio track was identified as “AI-generated.”

3) Deepfake-o-meter: Four separate audio detectors within this tool returned high confidence scores, indicating the audio track was AI-generated.

We also contacted Azahar Machwe, an expert in AI and emerging technology, to verify the authenticity of the video. He confirmed signs of AI manipulation in the video.

Reverse image search of the viral video’s keyframes led us to the original video. It was uploaded on The White House’s official YouTube channel on May 30, 2025. The viral clip is a mirrored version of this original. Throughout the entire video, President Trump did not mention banning Tesla production in the United States.

Trump-Musk Feud:

A public dispute between President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk gained significant limelight in the first week of June 2025, when Musk publicly criticised Trump, leading to Trump threatening to cut government contracts with Musk’s companies. More details about the feud can be read in these stories.
