Fact Check: Viral Image Of Travis Head Crying After Losing To India In The Champions Trophy Is AI Generated

New Delhi (Vishvas News). It was the Champions Trophy semifinal match, the Indian team secured a spot in the final by defeating Australia. Meanwhile, a picture of Australian player Travis Head getting emotional has gone viral on social media. Users are sharing these pictures, mistakenly thinking they are real, and claiming that Travis Head became emotional and started crying in front of his wife after losing the match.

Vishvas News investigated the claim and found it to be false. These pictures of Travis Head with his wife are not original but AI-generated. Users are sharing these images with a misleading claim, believing them to be true.

What is going viral?

On March 5, 2025, Facebook user ‘Deshraj Meena Ajabgarh’ shared the viral picture with the caption, “After the semi-final match yesterday, Travis Head got very emotional and started crying in front of his wife on the field, this photo is going viral since yesterday.

He does not know how much he has made the Indians cry, once he fell on himself, he started crying while standing.

I am feeling very relaxed after seeing this photo, this is not a head, it has always been our headache.”

Investigation

To verify the authenticity of the viral post, we closely analysed the picture and noticed several inconsistencies. The background of both pictures is blurred and there are noticeable differences in Travis’s facial structures. Additionally, in one image, ‘Australia’ is written on one of his T-shirts, while in the other, no such text is visible. These discrepancies raised suspicion that the images might be AI-generated.

We furthered our investigation by analysing the photo using AI detection tools. First we analysed the photo with Hive Moderation, which indicated an 88.7% probability of the photo being AI-generated.

To verify further, we analysed the picture through the site engine, which indicated a 99% probability of the photo being AI generated.

We also analysed the photo using the AI photo detection tool D Cop, which indicated a 94.03% probability that the photo was AI-generated.

We shared the viral post with Azhar Machwe, a researcher specialising in AI and emerging technology. He confirmed that the pictures are AI-generated, citing inconsistencies in lighting and colour. He also highlighted the blurred background and differences in the facial structure between the pictures, making it clear that these pictures have been created using AI.

Finally, we scanned the Facebook account of the user who shared the post with the false claim and found that the user has over 6000 followers.

Conclusion: Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the viral pictures of Australian player Travis Head and his wife were AI-generated, but are being mistakenly shared as real.
