Fact Check: Bangladesh Video Misleadingly Shared As Police Action Against Babri Masjid Supporters
Teachers in Bangladesh held demonstrations in November, during which the police used force against them. A video from that protest is now being falsely claimed as footage of Babri Masjid supporters.

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video going viral on social media shows police using tear gas and water cannons on a crowd, and is being shared with the claim that the incident occurred during the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Babri Masjid in West Bengal. Some users allege that police targeted supporters of the Babri Masjid construction.
Vishvas News investigated and found that the viral video is of a teachers’ protest in Bangladesh and is unrelated to the Babri Masjid.
What is the viral post?
Instagram user aanujj79 shared the video (archived link) on December 7, with the caption, “The Babri Masjid has been rebuilt, now we have peace.”
Investigation
To verify the viral video, we extracted key frames and searched them using Google Lens and found that Bangladeshi user Jahedul Islam posted this video on November 9th. However, no details have been provided regarding the video.
A related report was published on Bangladesh’s news website Chandpurkantha24, featuring key frames from the viral video. According to the story, “Government school teachers demonstrated across the country on November 9th, demanding three things, including salary. When the protesters moved towards Shahbag to press their demands, the police dispersed the procession. Several teachers were injured in the police lathi charge. Tear gas shells, sound grenades, and hot water from water cannons were also used to disperse the protesting teachers.”
Another Bangladeshi news website, the Daily Times of Bangladesh, also published a related story on November 10. According to the report, “Approximately 150 teachers were injured in a clash between police and teachers marching to press their demands. A government primary school teacher, who was reportedly unconscious after a sound grenade exploded during the teachers’ protest, died on Sunday.”
Some pictures of the protest have also been uploaded in the news, which can be seen in the viral video, proving that the viral video is from Bangladesh.
According to a report published on Dainik Jagran’s website on December 6th, “Suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir laid the foundation stone for the Babri Masjid in Murshidabad, West Bengal. In response, the foundation stone for the Ram Temple was laid in Baharampur.”
However, in our investigation, we did not find any news related to police action against ‘Babri Masjid’ supporters.
We contacted Dainik Jagran’s chief reporter in Kolkata, JK Bajpai. He stated that there were no incidents of police lathi-charge or water cannon use on Babri Masjid supporters and that the viral video is not from Kolkata.
Lastly, we scanned the profile of the user who shared the Bangladesh video, linking it to the Babri Masjid and found that the user has over 70000 followers and is motivated by a specific ideology.
Conclusion: Teachers in Bangladesh held demonstrations in November, during which the police used force against them. A video from that protest is now being falsely claimed as footage of Babri Masjid supporters.
