Fact Check: Jaishankar Did Not Say That 3 Indian Rafale Jets Were Shot Down; Video Is AI-Manipulated

New Delhi (Visvas News). A video is circulating widely on social media where External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar can allegedly be heard acknowledging the loss of three Rafale fighter jets of India during the recent conflict with Pakistan. 

Vishvas News investigated the viral claim and found this video to be a deepfake, which has been edited using Artificial Intelligence (AI). In the original video, Jaishankar did not mention Rafale.

What is viral?

Facebook user Jamshaid Iqbal shared the viral video (archive link) on July 3, 2025. In the video, Jaishankar can purportedly be heard saying, “Pakistan did attack us massively that night. We had already lost three Rafale jets to Pakistan two days ago, so it was very unfair of them to attack. They did it anyway. We responded quickly, and the next morning, Mr Rubio called me and said the Pakistanis were ready to talk.”

Investigation

To verify this claim, we searched for credible reports confirming Jaishankar’s alleged remarks about the Rafale jets but found no such credible information in any reliable media sources.

We conducted a Google reverse image search of the screenshots of the video and found a video of Jaishankar uploaded on the YouTube channel of the American magazine Newsweek on July 1, 2025. In the video, Jaishankar is seen in the same clothes as in the viral video. The caption accompanying the video reads, “India’s Dr. S. Jaishankar on Foreign Policy, Terror & UN Reform | Newsweek Exclusive.” The portion from the viral clip comes around the 43-minute mark. In the original video, Jaishankar says: “Pakistan did attack us massively that night. We responded very quickly after that, and the next morning, Mr. Rubio called me up and said that Pakistan is ready to talk.” 

There is no mention of Rafale aircraft at any point in the full 50-minute video. The portion about the jets was digitally added to the viral version.

For confirmation, we contacted our partner, Deepfakes Analysis Unit (DAU), an initiative of the Misinformation Combat Alliance (MCA), about the viral clip. DAU’s expert team analysed the video, and Hive AI’s detection tool found multiple segments where Jaishankar’s face was marked as being tampered with by AI.

We also spoke to AI expert Azhar Machwe, who confirmed that the video was edited using AI.

Facebook user Jamshaid Iqbal, who shared the viral video, has over 4000 followers.

Disclaimer: Changes were made to the investigation segment of this fact-check post publication. The word “replaced” was changed to “tampered with” to ensure a more accurate analysis.

Conclusion: Vishvas News, in its investigation, found that S Jaishankar’s statement in the viral video is a deepfake and has been edited using AI.
