New Delhi (Vishvas News): A picture of Sonia Gandhi is going viral on social media, showing a book titled ‘How to Convert India into a Christian Nation’ placed behind her. Many users are sharing this picture, assuming it to be real.
Vishvas News investigated and found that the viral picture is edited. In the original image, no such book appears in the background of Sonia Gandhi.
What is in the viral post?
Facebook user ‘Sameer Thakur’ (Archive) shared this picture, with the caption, “The one who understood this is very intelligent. You can understand why she stayed in Bharat. She does not know Hindi yet, but she is trying to fulfil her goal and she gives her hundred percent in it.”
Investigation
This image has gone viral in the past as well and was previously fact-checked by Vishvas News. At that time, a Google reverse image search led us to a video shared on Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter (now X) account on October 27, 2020, from which the viral screenshot was taken. In the original video, no such book appears behind Sonia.
We also found this video uploaded on the INC’s official YouTube channel, uploaded on October 27, 2020, where no such book is visible.
In this video, uploaded on October 27, 2020, Sonia addressed the people of Bihar ahead of the Assembly elections, speaking about the state’s economy and unemployment. The video was first shared by Rahul Gandhi in October 2020, and later, many media houses used screenshots from it in their reports.
Back in 2021, we also spoke to senior Congress leader Pawan Khera, who confirmed that the picture was edited. He further stated that he had lodged an FIR regarding the circulation of this edited picture.
Facebook user Sameer Thakur, who shared the edited picture, has over 700 followers.
