Fact Check: Old Video Of Fire breakout In Patna Viral with misleading claim as from Manglaur

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video of fire in a building is shared on social media claiming that fire broke out in a sweet shop in Manglaur, Roorkee district of Uttarakhand after 10 gas cylinders exploded. The viral post alleges that 24 people were killed and more than 30 were injured.

Vishvas News investigation revealed the claim is misleading. The old video of fire accident in Patna with no death causalities is viral with misleading claims.

Claim

A viral video featuring a fire breakout in a building is shared with a claim that 24 people were killed in cylinder explosion accident in Manglaur, Roorkee. The post alleges that a sweet shop went in flames after 10 cylinders exploded, injuring over 30 people. The archive link to this post can be seen here.

Investigation

We first uploaded the viral video to the InVID tool and extracted keyframes. We searched them on the Internet using Google reverse image search tool. We found this video uploaded on 8 June 2018 by Frontline News YouTube channel with description, “Fire in a gas warehouse in Didarganj, Patna City.”

We also found this video uploaded by the India Today YouTube Channel on 9 June 2018 with similar description as from a godown in Patna.

We contacted Dainik Jagran’s Patna correspondent Ashish Kumar to verify the claim.  “This video is from 2018, when a LPG godown in Bihar’s capital Patna was set on fire. There was no death causalities in this accident,” said Kumar.

We searched on the Internet for news about fire accident in Manglaur, Roorkee.  We found a news report by the Times of India stating, a 30-yr-old man was killed and 9 were injured in gas cylinder blast in a sweet shop at Manglaur on 8 November.

Several social media users are sharing the video as from the recent incident. Social scanning of the Facebook page Knowledge ka Adda that shared the viral claim revealed that it has 11,393 followers.

Conclusion: The viral post is misleading. The old video of fire accident in Bihar is viral as from recent incident in Manglaur, Uttarakhand.
