Fact Check: Old Video Of Rahul Gandhi Addressing People From A Bus Shared Falsely As His ‘Bihar Yatra’

New Delhi (Vishvas News). As Bihar prepares for its Legislative Assembly elections, misleading posts continue to surface on social media. Amid this, a video of the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is going viral, with users claiming it shows him addressing people during his ‘Voter Rights Yatra’ (Matdata Adhikar Yatra) in Bihar.
In the viral video, Rahul can be seen climbing onto a bus and addressing people. However, Vishvas News, in its investigation, found that the viral video is not recent and not from Bihar. It is from the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ held at the Assam-Meghalaya border in January 2024. The old video is being shared by linking it to the recent Bihar rpadshow.
What is in the Viral Post?
The Facebook page ‘Voice of Bihar Rahul Gandhi’ shared the viral post on August 16, 2025 writing, “Jananayak (People’s leader) climbing on the bus roof. #voiceofbiharrahulgandhi.”

Investigation
To begin our investigation, we extracted key frames from the viral video and searched them using Google Lens. This led us to the same video uploaded on ETV Bharat.com on January 23, 2024. According to the information provided, the clip was from the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in Assam. On that day, Rahul Gandhi was scheduled to interact with students at the USTM University, located on the Assam-Meghalaya border. However, keeping in mind the spirit of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, he chose instead to meet students gathered near a nearby hotel.
Further investigation led us to a related video on the YouTube channel of Money Control, uploaded on January 23, 2024 According to the provided information, “The Congress party alleged that Rahul Gandhi was supposed to interact with hundreds of students at USTM University on the Assam-Meghalaya border; however, his invitation was allegedly canceled after Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s involvement. Nevertheless, considering the Yatra, the Congress party held an impromptu interaction with hundreds of students at a nearby hotel.”
We also found the live broadcast of Rahul Gandhi’s journey from Meghalaya to Assam uploaded on his official YouTube channel on January 23, 2024. In this, too, he can be seen addressing university students.
To verify the authenticity of the viral video, we contacted Sunil Raj, Chief Correspondent covering Congress for Dainik Jagran Bihar. He also confirmed that this video is not from Bihar but is from an earlier yatra.
According to the report, “Ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has embarked on a ‘Voter Rights Yatra’ across the state. During this yatra, leaders of the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) are interacting directly with the public along with Rahul Gandhi. However, due to the election for the Vice President, Rahul Gandhi could not join the yatra on Wednesday, and its second phase is scheduled to begin from today.”
Recently, a video showing a leader being beaten up went viral in the context of the Bihar elections. It was shared with the claim that supporters of a ‘fugitive’ AIMIM MP were thrashed by locals in Bihar. However, our investigation revealed that the video had no connection to Bihar; it was related to an incident of violence during a Gram Panchayat in Assam.

Lastly, we conducted a social scan of the Facebook page sharing the fake post and found that the page has 64000 followers.
