Fact Check: PM Modi Did Not Ignore The President; Viral Claim Is Misleading

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A photograph from the 77th Republic Day celebrations is being circulated on social media to suggest that Prime Minister Narendra Modi disrespected President Droupadi Murmu. The image shows the President with folded hands while PM Modi stands still, leading to allegations that he ignored her greeting.
Vishvas News investigated and found that the viral claim is misleading. PM Modi greeted President Murmu with folded hands. The interaction was cordial and followed established protocol. The screenshot is from when the President moved on to greet the next guest.
What is going viral?
Facebook user ‘Adity Raj’ shared the viral photo on January 29, 2026, captioning it, “This great man doesn’t even respect the President. Do you think this behaviour is good?”

Investigation
To verify the veracity of the viral claim, we searched Google using relevant keywords but did not find any related news reports.
To further investigate, we performed a Google reverse image search of the photo. We found a video related to the viral image on the official YouTube channel of the President of India. The video was shared on January 26, 2026. According to the caption, the video is from the reception held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day. At 1.27 minutes, it can be seen that when President Murmu greets PM Modi with a courtesy greeting, he also greets her with folded hands. Following this, President Murmu moves forward to meet others, and PM Modi stands with his hands down. The photo of this very moment is now being shared with a misleading claim.
We contacted BJP spokesperson Vijay Sonkar for more information. He told us that the viral claim is misleading and is being shared on social media to tarnish the PM’s image. There is no truth to it.
Lastly, we scanned the Facebook account of the user who shared the photo with the misleading claim and found that the user identifies as a digital creator and has 14,000 followers.
Conclusion: Vishvas News investigated and found that PM Modi greeted President Murmu with folded hands. The viral image is from the moment she greeted PM Modi and moved on. Social media users are now sharing the image with a false claim.
