New Delhi (Vishvas News): Following the recent communal violence in Nagpur, Maharashtra, several fake and misleading social media posts have been circulated. Among them is a viral picture of senior RSS leader and Muslim Rashtriya Manch convenor Indresh Kumar attending an Iftar party. Some social media users have falsely claimed that amid the violence in Nagpur, Kumar was attending an Iftar party.
Vishvas News investigated the viral claim and found it to be fake. The image dates back to March 15, 2025, while the violence in Nagpur broke out on March 17, 2025.
What is going viral?
On March 20, 2025 Facebook user ‘T Ranjeet Singh’ posted, “The so-called organisations are making deals of killing Hindus by forming Muslim Rashtriya Manch with the money of Hindus. The night when the houses and vehicles of Hindus were being identified and burnt in Nagpur, RSS’s Indresh Kumar was licking the false dates of ****.”

Investigation
Vishvas News first scanned Kumar’s social media account to verify the viral post. We found many pictures related to the viral picture on his Facebook page, along with an invitation letter for the Iftar party.
Our investigation revealed that the Iftar party was organised on March 15, 2025 at the community hall in Nizamuddin West, Delhi, where Kumar was the chief guest. The pictures from the same event are now being falsely circulated in connection with the Nagpur violence.
During our investigation, we also found a video of the event on ANI India’s YouTube channel. The video, uploaded on March 16, 2025 shows Indresh Kumar attending the Iftar party, where he helped Umar Ahmed Ilyasi break his fast.
Additionally, we found some news reports on the news website patrika.com confirming Kumar attended the Iftar.
Continuing our investigation, we searched the New Delhi edition of Dainik Jagran and found a related report about the event in the March 16 newspaper. You can see it below.
A report on Economic Times’ website provided more details on the incident: “Violence erupted in central Nagpur at around 7.30 pm on Monday with stones hurled at police amid rumours that the holy book of a community was burnt during an agitation by a right-wing outfit for the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb.”
Vishvas News contacted Dr Shalini Ali, the organiser of the event. She said she hosts an Iftar party annually during the holy month of Ramzan, and that Kumar attended this year’s gathering. The event took place on March 15, making the claim in the post, baseless.
Lastly, we investigated the Facebook account of the user who shared the misleading post and found that the user is a resident of Utraula in Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh and has around 5000 followers.
