New Delhi (Vishvas News). Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently urged citizens to save fuel and abstain from buying gold and imported goods for a year to preserve the country’s foreign exchange reserves. Amid this, an old video of PM Modi has resurfaced on social media, with users falsely claiming that it shows a team applying makeup to him. The video is now being shared to mock PM Modi.

Vishvas News investigated and found the viral claim to be false. The viral video is not recent; it dates back to 2016, when a team of artists and experts from Madame Tussauds visited the Prime Minister’s residence to take measurements for his wax statue. Notably, the same misleading claim has resurfaced on social media multiple times over the years and has previously been fact-checked and debunked.

What is going viral?

X user ‘Adv Shubham’ shared the viral video on May 27, 2026, with the caption, “This is how Modi ji is decorated, the entire team is busy in decorating him.”

Investigation

This video has been viral with the same claim since 2019. Subsequently, it went viral in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. We have investigated this misleading claim and have always exposed the truth.

We also found the viral video on the YouTube channel of Madame Tussauds London, shared on March 16, 2016. According to available information in the video, “The video depicts the installation of PM Modi’s statue at Madame Tussauds Museum. A team of experts from Madame Tussauds visited the PM’s residence in Delhi to create the statue.”

What is the context?

On May 10, 2026, PM Modi addressed a public rally in Telangana, where he made several appeals to citizens, in light of the ongoing tensions in West Asia. He said, “Gold purchases are an area where foreign currency is used extensively. In the national interest, we should pledge not to purchase gold for one year, no matter how many events are held at home. Lastly, we scanned the X account of the user who shared the video with the false claim and found that the user has over 100 followers and shares posts related to a specific ideology.
