Fact Check: Claim Of Dhoni’s Arrest Is False, Old Video Viral With Misleading Claim

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video of former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is going viral on social media, in which he can be seen being taken away by some people. It is being claimed that the video is from the UK, where police have arrested him.
Vishvas News investigated and found the viral claim to be false. The viral video is from 2022, when a crowd of fans gathered in London to see Dhoni and chase him for selfies. Security personnel escorted him through the crowd. This old video is being circulated with a false claim for propaganda purposes.
What is going viral?
Instagram user ‘cricket_adda_18_45‘ shared the viral video on November 9, 2025, with the caption, “MS Dhoni arrested by British police.”

Investigation
To verify the viral claim, we extracted several keyframes from the video and conducted a Google reverse image search. This led us to a related report published on Aaj Tak’s website on July 17, 2022. According to the report, “After seeing Dhoni on the streets of London, a crowd gathered to take selfies with him. Dhoni found it difficult to walk on the road. Security personnel managed to rescue Dhoni with great difficulty. This video was reportedly filmed outside London’s Oval Stadium.”
According to a report published on India TV’s website on July 16, 2022, “Mahendra Singh Dhoni was on holiday in London and celebrated his 41st birthday there.”

In further investigation, we searched Google using relevant keywords about Dhoni’s arrest but found no credible news reports supporting the claim.
For further clarity, we contacted sports analyst, journalist, and commentator Syed Hussain for more information, who confirmed that the video is old and the claim is false.
Lastly, we scanned the Instagram account of the user who shared the video with the false claim and found that the user has over 1700 followers.
