Fact Check: Viral Image Of Pakistan Captain Sana Touching Indian Player Mandhana’s Feet Is AI-Generated

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A photo from the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup match between India and Pakistan is going viral. In the image, Pakistan captain Fatima Sana is seen touching the feet of Indian women’s cricketer Smriti Mandhana, claiming that Sana touched Mandhana’s feet after losing the match.
Vishvas News investigated the viral claim and found it to be false and generated by AI.
What is going viral?
Facebook user ‘Rishra TV’ shared the viral photo on October 6, 2025, with the caption, “Pakistan captain Fatima Sana touching the feet of Smriti Mandhana after losing to India in the World Cup. Photo.”
Investigation
To verify the authenticity of the viral claim, we first searched Google using keywords, but found no such media reports. An incident like this would have certainly been covered in the media.
We then scanned the official Instagram handles of Mandhana and Sana and found no posts related to the claim. Upon closer inspection of the photo, we noticed that Mandhana’s hand shape was unusual, and the Indian team jersey she was wearing also differed significantly from the original. This led us to suspect the photo was AI-generated.
To further our investigation, we searched the photo using an AI detection tool. First, we used the Site Engine tool to search for the photo, which indicated a 99% probability of being AI-generated.
Similarly, we searched for the photo using another tool. We uploaded the photo to the Hive Moderation Tool, which highlighted an 89% probability of being AI-generated.
For further verification, we contacted sports analyst, journalist, and commentator Syed, who dismissed the claim as false.
According to a report published on Aaj Tak’s website on October 6, 2025, “India is consistently defeating neighbouring Pakistan on the cricket field. Now, in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, the Indian team defeated Pakistan by 88 runs. On October 5 (Sunday), in Colombo’s R. In this match played at the Premadasa Stadium, India set a target of 248 runs for Pakistan. This target proved to be a mountain for the Pakistanis. The entire Pakistani team was all out for 159 runs in 43 overs”.
Lastly, we scanned the Facebook account of the user who shared the photo with the false claim and found that the user has 61000 followers.
Conclusion: Vishvas News investigated the viral image and found that the image of Fatima Sana touching Smriti Mandhana’s feet was created using an AI tool.
