New Delhi (Vishvas News). A screenshot of the ICC ODI rankings list is going viral on social media with claims that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been removed from the list, with some users even suggesting they have retired.

Vishvas News, in its investigation, found that neither player has been removed from the ICC ODI rankings. Their names temporarily disappeared from the website due to a technical glitch, which was soon rectified.

What is going viral?

Instagram user t20express shared the viral screenshots on August 20, 2025, with the caption, “Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been removed from the ICC ODI rankings. This is too much. In the new ICC ODI rankings released 2-3 days ago, Rohit Sharma was at number 2 and Virat Kohli was at number 4.”

Investigation

To begin our investigation, we scanned the ICC’s official website and reviewed the latest ODI Rankings, where Sharma holds second position and Kohli ranks fourth.

Upon searching with relevant keywords, we found multiple reports confirming that the names of Sharma and Kohli disappeared briefly due to a technical glitch on the ICC website, which was promptly corrected.

According to a Times of India report, dated August 21, 2025, “Indian cricket icons Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were briefly removed from the ICC ODI batting rankings on Wednesday due to a technical glitch, despite both continuing to be active in the format….. The anomaly was quickly corrected, with Rohit reinstated to No. 2 and Kohli restored to fourth place. The glitch impacted no other player.”

We then contacted cricket expert and ESPN commentator Syed Hussain, who confirmed that it was a technical glitch and the mistake was soon rectified.

Lastly, we scanned the Facebook account of the user Devanand Bhaskar, who shared the post with the false claim, and found that the user has around 1000 followers.

Conclusion: Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were not removed from the ICC ODI rankings. It was a technical glitch, which was promptly corrected. The viral claim is false.
