New Delhi (Vishvas News): In a picture going viral on social media, Home Minister Amit Shah and Mamta Banerjee can be seen at the dining table. It is being claimed that the two leaders met before the assembly elections in Bengal.

Vishvas News investigated and found the viral claim to be fake. The viral picture is old and has nothing to do with the Bengal elections.

Claim

Facebook user ‘AIMIM Jamshedpur’ shared the viral picture (archived link) writing: “Discussion on Bengal election during breakfast. But the blind will call Owaisi the agent… Who is the agent of the BJP, it is time for you to see who is eating the food sitting here, they are all the same people. Who the agent is, first look and then speak.”

Twitter user ‘Mohammad Asaraf Ansari’ also shared the same picture with similar claim:

Investigation

In the picture, Home Minister Amit Shah, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik can be seen sitting at the dinner table. While searching on Google using the Google reverse image tool, we found the viral picture in many reports.

According to the report published on NDTV’s website, Home Minister Amit Shah and Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had gone to Bhubaneswar to attend the meeting of the Eastern Zonal Council (EZC), the Forum of Eastern States. The meeting was chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar were also present in the meeting.

EZC की बैठक के बाद नवीन पटनायक के आवास पर गृह मंत्री अमित शाह और पूर्वी राज्यों के मुख्यमंत्रियों के लिए लंच का कार्यक्रम रखा गया था

After the meeting, Naveen Patnaik had a dinner program for the Home Minister and Chief Ministers of other eastern states at his official residence. The picture that is going viral has been shared by Naveen Patnaik from his verified Twitter profile.

Dainik Jagran’s West Bengal Bureau Chief JK Vajpayee dismissed the claim that these photographs were related to the Bengal election, saying, “This is a several-month-old picture when Home Minister Amit Shah and Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had gone to Bhubaneswar to attend the meeting of the Eastern Zonal Council (EZC), the Forum of Eastern States. The meeting was chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah.”

We scanned the profile of the user who shared the false claim and found that more than one and a half million people follow the user.

Conclusion: Old picture of Home Minister Amit Shah and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is going viral on social media with false claims. The viral picture is after the meeting of the Eastern Zonal Council in Bhubaneswar, which is now being falsely linked to the Bengal elections.
