Fact Check: Viral Video of ‘Balochistan Celebrations’ After Pakistan’s Loss is Misleading
The investigation by Vishvas News confirms that the viral video is not from after the India-Pakistan T20 match. The footage is from a cultural festival at a university in Lahore held in January 2026, featuring a traditional dance known as “Balochi Chaap.” It has no connection to the cricket match or Pakistan’s defeat in Colombo.

New Delhi (Vishvas News). On February 15, 2026, a T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. India defeated Pakistan by 61 runs. Following the match, a video began circulating rapidly on social media showing a crowd celebrating and dancing around a fire in the streets.
Users sharing the clip claim it shows members of the Baloch community in Balochistan celebrating Pakistan’s defeat as a political statement. However, an investigation by Vishvas News has revealed that this video is unrelated to the cricket match; it is actually footage from a university cultural festival held in Lahore in January 2026.
What’s in the viral post?
Facebook user ‘Anshika Thakurain‘ shared the viral post on February 16, 2026, with the caption, “India’s resounding victory over Pakistan in the T20 World Cup created a festive atmosphere not only in India but also in Balochistan. In the video circulating on social media, members of the Baloch community were seen dancing, swaying to the beats of drums, and waving the tricolor. Many young people openly expressed their joy, calling the victory “our victory.” Local activists linked it to Balochistan’s long struggle for independence, saying that every victory for India gives them new hope. Baloch supporters had congratulated India after the 2019 World Cup, but this time the celebrations were even more open and vocal.”
Investigation
Vishvas News began the investigation by extracting key frames from the viral video and performing a reverse image search via Google Lens. A similar video was found uploaded on January 24, 2026, on the YouTube channel “Balochistan.com.” The description identified the location as Government College University (GCU), Lahore.
The same footage was located on the Instagram account “GCU Youth,” uploaded on January 26, 2026. The post explicitly states the video captures a “Balochi cultural dance” performed during a university festival.
We found several other videos similar to the viral video uploaded on social media platforms in January 2026. It was reported that this was a video of a Baloch dance performed during a university festival. The video was described as “Balochi Chaap.”
India defeated Pakistan on February 15, 2026. Because the video was already public in January 2026, it is chronologically impossible for it to be a reaction to the T20 World Cup match.
While media outlets like News18 and Times Now reported on general celebrations in parts of Balochistan following the match on February 16, this specific viral video is being misused.
While we cannot independently verify the celebration claimed in the reports or the video itself, we do confirm that the viral video is not recent, but rather old and related to a different context.

To verify the viral video, we contacted Pakistani journalist Adil Ali. He told us that it is a video of a Balochi dance performed at a university in Lahore. It was before the T20 match.
A scan of the profile of the user who shared the post, ‘Anshika Thakurain,’ showed she is a frequent Facebook user with 14,000 followers, often sharing high-engagement content.
Conclusion: The investigation by Vishvas News confirms that the viral video is not from after the India-Pakistan T20 match. The footage is from a cultural festival at a university in Lahore held in January 2026, featuring a traditional dance known as “Balochi Chaap.” It has no connection to the cricket match or Pakistan’s defeat in Colombo.
