Fact Check: No Metro Fares Hike After BJP’s Victory In Delhi, Viral Claim Is Fake
Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the viral post is fake and the Metro fares have not been increased following the BJP’s victory in Delhi. Delhi Metro itself has denied this claim.

New Delhi (Vishvas News). After the BJP’s victory in Delhi, a message has gone viral on social media claiming that the Delhi Metro fare increased by 50% soon after the BJP formed the government.
However, Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the Delhi Metro fare has not been increased. Delhi Metro officials have also denied this claim. Our investigation proved the viral post to be fake.
What is going viral?
Facebook user Vivek Yadav Agra claimed in a post on February 13, 2025 “As soon as the BJP government was formed, the BJP gave a gift to the people of Delhi; the Delhi Metro fare was increased by 50%.”

Investigation
Vishvas News began its investigation by scanning the official social media handles of Delhi Metro. A post on DMRC’s X handle on February 12, 2025 stated that some social media posts claim that Delhi Metro’s fares have been revised. It clarified that Delhi Metro fares can only be revised by an independent fare fixation committee, nominated by the government and currently no such proposal exists.
Further, a Google search led us to a report on Jagran.com, dated February 13, which stated that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had denied the rumours of a 50% fare hike.
During our investigation, we discovered that metro fares have been increased in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Now travelling by metro there will be expensive, as Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has decided to raise fares by 50% starting February 9, 2025. The maximum ticket price has been increased from Rs 60 to Rs 90. However, smart card users will receive a discount of up to 5% on the fare.
Vishvas News furthered the investigation and contacted Anuj Dayal, Chief Executive Director of DMRC. He confirmed that the claim in the viral post is fake and no such decision has been made.
Additionally, we investigated the Facebook profile of a user named Vivek Yadav and discovered that the user lives in Agra, UP and has 4900 followers.
Conclusion: Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the viral post is fake and the Metro fares have not been increased following the BJP’s victory in Delhi. Delhi Metro itself has denied this claim.
