New Delhi (Vishvas News): A video news clip is going viral on social media, claiming that a lockdown is being imposed in Delhi. In the video, the news anchor can be seen reporting about a lockdown in the capital. Some users are sharing it with the claim that Delhi is set to go under lockdown again.
Vishvas News’ investigation found this claim to be false. The video is old and is being misrepresented as recent. There is no lockdown being imposed in Delhi.
What is in the viral post?
Thread user deepak_sahin posted the video (archive link) on March 30, 2025 with the caption,
“Lockdown is going to be imposed again in Delhi, all brothers please return to your homes”
The video claims that a six-day lockdown will be imposed in Delhi starting from 10 pm tonight, lasting until April 25, 2025. Following this announcement, residents of Delhi have reportedly started gathering at the Anand Vihar bus station to travel back to their hometowns. The video also mentions treatment for COVID-19.
Investigation
In the viral video, the news anchor announces that a six-day lockdown will be imposed in Delhi starting from today and will remain effective until 5:00 am on April 25, 2025. The anchor also mentions that the lockdown will begin in about an hour, suggesting that the video dates back to April 18-19. However, the user shared this video on March 30, 2025 rmaking it appear suspicious.
On searching relevant keywords, we found a related report on the Navbharat Times website dated April 19, 2021. The report stated, “The Kejriwal government of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced a lockdown in Delhi for six days. The lockdown will be in force from 10 pm today till 5:00 am next Monday, April 26.”
On April 19, 2021, a video news report related to this was uploaded on the Facebook page of Republic Bharat. According to the report, “In view of Corona, a six-day lockdown has been announced to improve the health services of Delhi. Under this, strictness will remain in force till 5 am on Monday.”
A video news report uploaded on Republic Bharat’s Facebook page on April 20, 2021, stated that after the lockdown announcement in Delhi, large crowds were seen at the bus stations in the capital till late at night.
This confirms that the news is from four years ago, when a lockdown was imposed in Delhi to combat COVID-19. However, we did not find the exact viral video in our investigation.
Additionally, a keyword search on Google did not yield any credible media report confirming that a lockdown is currently being imposed in Delhi.
Dainik Jagran’s chief correspondent in Delhi, VK Shukla, clarified, “There is no lockdown in Delhi. The viral post says that the lockdown will be imposed from 10 pm tonight, while this is yesterday’s video. Nothing like this has happened.”
We scanned the profile of the user who shared the video with the false claim and found that the user has 51 followers.
