Fact Check: Viral Photo Of BJP President Hoisting Tricolor Upside Down Is Edited, Not Real

Vishvas News found that the viral photo of BJP National President Nitin Nabin hoisting the tricolor upside down is doctored. Nitin Nabin was holding and hoisting the tricolor correctly in the original photo.

New Delhi (Vishvas News). The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign is being conducted across the country on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day on August 15, 2026. Amidst this, a photo of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Nitin Nabin is rapidly going viral on social media. He can be seen holding the national flag upside down in this image. Many social media users are sharing the image with the claim that Nitin Nabin hoisted the tricolor upside down, thereby disrespecting the national flag.

Vishvas News investigated the viral claim and found it to be false. The viral photo is actually an edited one. Nitin Nabin was holding the tricolor correctly and hoisting it upright. The edited photo is now being shared with a false claim.

What is going viral?

Facebook user ‘Gagan Yadav’ shared the viral photo on August 14, 2026, and wrote, “National President of BJP, which claims to be a big party, Nitin Nabin, during the Tiranga Yatra!”

Investigation

To verify the viral claim, we began by checking the official social media accounts of the BJP and Nitin Nabin. We found the original image on the BJP’s official X account. The photo was shared on August 13, 2026. According to the information, “BJP National President Nitin Nabin hoisted the tricolor on the roof of his house as part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign and proudly took a selfie. Be a part of this campaign, hoist the tricolor at your home, take a selfie, and post it with pride!”

During our investigation, we found a video related to the viral photo on Nitin Nabin’s official X account. This video was shared on August 13, 2026. The caption reads, “Tricolour in every home. Following the call of respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today, as part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, we hoisted the tricolour at our residence, remembering our shared commitment to the nation and the immortal martyrs of the freedom struggle. Come, hoist the tricolour at your homes and participate in this proud campaign. Take a photo with the tricolour and share it on social media with ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’, and help make this movement of public participation more widespread across the country.”

We contacted BJP spokesperson Vijay Sonkar Shastri for more information on the viral image. He told us that the viral claim is false. The edited photo is being circulated with a false claim.

What is the context?

The country’s ’80th Independence Day’ was celebrated on August 15, 2026. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the tricolor at the iconic Red Fort. This was followed by the national anthem and a 21-gun salute. For the first time this year, a full version of ‘Vande Mataram’ was sung at the Red Fort on Independence Day. Finally, we scanned the Facebook account of the user who shared the photo with the false claim. We found that the user has over ten thousand followers. As per the profile, the user is a resident of Uttar Pradesh.

Conclusion: Vishvas News found that the viral photo of BJP National President Nitin Nabin hoisting the tricolor upside down is doctored. Nitin Nabin was holding and hoisting the tricolor correctly in the original photo.
