New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video circulating widely on social media shows US President Donald Trump saying he would “erase Pakistan” and support India if a war broke out between the two nations.

Vishvas News found this claim to be false in its investigation. The viral video is fake, and its audio has been changed. The original video is from 2016.

What is viral?

Facebook user “viral creator” shared the viral video (archive link) on May 2, 2025. In the video, Trump can be heard saying, “I don’t want war, I want peace, but if Pakistan attacks India, I will support India, erase Pakistan, and warn China, I love indian people.

Investigation

Upon close examination of the video, Vishvas News noticed visual distortions around Trump’s mouth, indicating possible editing. This raised suspicion that the video might have been altered.

A reverse image search led us to the original video, uploaded by CNN on YouTube on September 15, 2016. The caption read, “Donald Trump speaking at the Economic Club of New York said he has a plan to grow the economy by 4 percent.” In this nearly 40-minute video, Trump talked about tax cuts and trade reforms to boost US economic growth. He did not mention India or Pakistan anywhere in this entire speech.

We also found the transcript of this entire speech on the website of the New York Economic Club, which can be read here. Here too, it can be seen that Trump did not mention India or Pakistan anywhere in this entire speech.

We contacted our partner Deepfakes Analysis Unit (a Misinformation Combat Alliance initiative) regarding the viral video. DAU’s expert team analysed the video. They used the Deepfake-o-meter tool to check the audio, where 7 out of 7 classifiers found this audio clip to be synthetic.

We also spoke to Azahar Machwe, a researcher working in AI and emerging technology, to confirm this. He also confirmed that the audio was created by AI.

The Facebook group Karan Yadav, which shared the viral video, has over 1000 members.

Conclusion: Vishvas News found in its investigation that the audio of Donald Trump in the viral video is not real and it has been created with the help of AI.
