Fact Check: 2020 Video Of Egypt Oil Pipeline Fire Falsely Linked To Pakistan
Vishvas News found in its investigation that the viral video is of the oil pipeline fire incident in Egypt in July 2020. It has no connection with Pakistan.

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video circulating widely on social media shows multiple vehicles engulfed in flames. Some users are sharing it and claiming that this video shows the Pakistani Air Force bombing one of its airports. The post further claims that more than 1500 people have died in the accident.
Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the viral claim is false. The video shows a fire that erupted in an oil pipeline in Cairo, Egypt, in July 2020. No such incident has occurred in Pakistan recently.
What is in the viral post
Facebook user Pankaj Pankaj (archive link) shared the viral video on April 30, 2025, with the text, “Another accident. Pakistan dropped a bomb on itself. Terrible accident at airport, loss of 2 thousand crores. Unverified news of 1500 + people dying.”

Investigation
To verify the authenticity of the viral video, we took a few screenshots of the video and searched them with Google Lens. We found this video embedded in a news report published by Sky News on July 15, 2020. According to the news report, this video is of an oil pipeline explosion in Cairo, Egypt, in which 17 people were injured.

Through keyword search, we found multiple news reports confirming the 2020 Cairo oil pipeline incident. The viral video also appears in a July 16, 2020, report on The Telegraph’s YouTube channel, identifying it as the Cairo pipeline fire.
After establishing the origin of the video, we searched for any reports of similar incidents in Pakistan recently. We found no authentic news reports to suggest that such an incident had occurred there in recent times.
For more confirmation, we contacted Egyptian journalist Mohammad Kassab, who covered this incident in 2020. He confirmed that the video is from the Cairo pipeline fire that occurred in 2020.
Facebook user Pankaj Pankaj, who shared the Egyptian video as Pakistan, is followed by about 5000 users on Facebook.
