Fact Check: Old Image Of Sachin Tendulkar From Wimbledon Falsely Linked To Shubman Gill’s Century In England

Vishvas News (New Delhi). On July 5, 2025, India defeated England by 336 runs in the second Test in Birmingham, levelling the five-match series 1-1 under the captaincy of Shubman Gill. During this match, Gill broke many records, including Virat Kohli’s record (293) for the most runs by an Indian Test captain, scoring 430 runs. Now, a photo collage has gone viral on social media, claiming that cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and his wife, Anjali Tendulkar, gave Gill a standing ovation in recognition of his achievement. 

Vishvas News investigated the post and found it to be false. The old image of Tendulkar and his wife Anjali at Wimbledon is being falsely linked to Gill’s recent century and India’s win in England.

What is going viral?

On July 6, 2025, Facebook user Sam Cricket IQ shared the viral collage, with the caption, “Sachin Tendulkar and his wife Anjali Tendulkar appreciating Shubman Gill for his wonderful performance!!”

Investigation

To verify the viral claim, we conducted a Google reverse image search and found the image of Tendulkar and his wife Anjali on photo agency Shutterstock’s website on July 6, 2024 along with the description “Wimbledon Tennis Championships, Day 6, The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, London, UK – 06 Jul 2024: Sachin Tendulkar and Anjali Tendulkar in the Royal Box on Centre Court.”

We also found this image from a different angle on photo agency Getty Images uploaded on July 6, 2024, with the description “LONDON, ENGLAND – JULY 06: Sachin Tendulkar attends day six of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on July 06, 2024, in London, England. (Photo by Karwai Tang/WireImage).”

We contacted Dainik Jagran’s sports editor, Abhishek Tripathi, who confirmed that the viral images are from July 2024, when Tendulkar and his wife Anjali attended Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Upon searching with relevant keywords, we found a July 6, 2025, Facebook post by Tendulkar, where he praised Tam India and Captain Gill. In his post, he wrote, “A Sublime innings from the man of the moment! Congratulations, Shubman Gill, on powering India to a brilliant Test victory! Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja batted very well, especially in the 2nd innings. India’s approach was to take England out of this game and force them to play differently, making sure that there would only be 1 winner. What impressed me most about the bowlers was the length they bowled. Needless to say, Akash Deep was the standout bowler, and in my opinion, he bowled the ball of the series to Joe Root. P.S.: Enjoyed the catch taken by Mohammad “Jonty” Siraj  Mohammed Siraj Indian Cricket Team.”

Finally, we scanned the Facebook page Sam Cricket IQ that shared the viral claim and found that the user has over 700 followers.

Conclusion: Vishvas News, in its investigation, found that old image of Sachin Tendulkar and his wife Anjali at Wimbledon is falsely linked to Shubman Gill’s recent century and India’s win in England.
