Fact Check: Old Video Of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Taking A Dig At Nitish Kumar Goes Viral With Misleading Claim

Vishvas News, in its investigation, found that the claim surrounding the viral video of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha is misleading. The video is not recent, but dates back nearly two years, when Sinha was the Leader of the Opposition, and made this statement, taking a dig at the government.

New Delhi (Vishvas News). As Bihar gears up for its upcoming Assembly elections, a video of Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Vijay Kumar Sinha is going viral on social media, where he is seen taking a dig at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and mocking his free electricity scheme. Users are sharing this video claiming it is recent and that Sinha made these remarks following the murder of gangster Chandan Mishra at Paras Hospital.

Vishvas News, in its investigation, found the viral claim to be misleading. The video is not recent but is about two years old. At that time, Sinha was serving as the Leader of the Opposition and made this statement while taking a dig at the government. Currently, Kumar leads the government in alliance with the BJP, and Sinha holds the post of Deputy Chief Minister.

What is going viral?

Facebook user ‘Pappu Yadav’ shared the viral video on July 20, 2025, with the caption, ” Vijay Singha, furious over the murder of the infamous Chandan Mishra in Paras Hospital and enraged over the free electricity scheme, declared that until the rule of goons is ended, the declaration of war against misrule will continue. Two thousand twenty five Nitish Kumar finish.”

Investigation

To verify the authenticity of the viral claim, we closely analysed the post and noticed the logo of Lakhisarai Live on it. We searched the platform’s YouTube channel and found a longer version of the same video, uploaded on September 11, 2022. The statement seen in the viral video appears around the 11.40 mark. According to the available information, Sinha was not in the government at that time; he was serving as the leader of the opposition, and he had criticised the government in response to an incident in his constituency.

Using the available information, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords and found a related post on the official X account of the BJP Bihar, shared on September 12, 2022. The caption of the report reads, “Chief Minister ji, your last time has come, misrule and hooliganism will end in Bihar. Against this, I blow the conch from Lakhisarai, will fight till the last breath until your rule is ended. Honourable Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Shri Vijay Kumar Sinha.”

According to a report published on The Hindu website on August 9, 2022, “Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar broke away from the BJP and joined the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)-led Mahagathbandhan. He left the RJD in 2017 over the issue of Nitish’s corruption.”

According to a report published by the Indian Express on January 29, 2024, “Nitish Kumar again left RJD and formed the government with the BJP. During this, Vijay Kumar Sinha was made the Deputy Chief Minister.”

For further clarification, we contacted Arun Ashesh, Bihar Bureau Chief at Dainik Jagran. He confirmed that the video is old and the claim is misleading.

Lastly, we scanned the Facebook account of the user who shared the video with the false claim and found that the user identifies as a resident of Bihar and has over 6000 followers.

Conclusion: Vishvas News, in its investigation, found that the claim surrounding the viral video of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha is misleading. The video is not recent, but dates back nearly two years, when Sinha was the Leader of the Opposition, and made this statement, taking a dig at the government.
