New Delhi (Vishvas News). Following the Gen-Z protests in Nepal, a video of youth pelting stones at the police is viral with the claim that the visuals are from the neighbouring country’s capital Kathmandu.
Vishvas News, in its investigation, found that the viral claim is false. The viral video is not from Nepal but from a protest in Indonesia.
What is going viral?
Facebook user ‘EagleVision Eye‘ shared the viral video on September 10, 2025, with the caption, “During the protest in Nepal, the army had to defend itself like this, but the protestors kept attacking anyway!”
Investigation
To verify the authenticity of the viral video, we extracted several key frames and analysed them using Google reverse image search. This led us to a Facebook page named ‘Nigerian Military Gallery’, which had shared the video on September 2, 2025, identifying it as footage from protests in Indonesia.

During our investigation, we found the viral video uploaded on YouTube and X with the same information on September 2, 2025.
Using the information, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords and found a related report on the ‘Carnegie Endowment’ website, published on September 3, 2025. According to the report, thousands of people demonstrated outside the National Parliament in Indonesia over a proposed 10% salary hike for MPs. This move, coupled with rising corruption, sparked public outrage, and the demonstrations eventually turned violent.

We found a similar video on the official YouTube channel of Associated Press, claiming it to be a demonstration from Indonesia.
We also analysed the yellow banner seen in the viral video. and found the word ‘Diabetasol’ written on it. A search revealed that it is an Indonesian brand associated with diabetes, and we located its Instagram account, confirming the same.

For more information, we contacted Kathmandu-based independent journalist Anuj Arora. He confirmed that while Nepal is witnessing several violent protests, the viral video is not from here.
According to a report published on Aaj Tak’s website on September 10, 2025, “The nature of protests in Nepal has completely changed in the last two days. On Monday, school and college students were protesting against the social media ban on the streets of the capital, Kathmandu, but in just 24 hours, the situation started taking a violent turn. Unknown armed people are taking the path of violence against the government by becoming part of the protest. Seeing the situation deteriorating, the Nepal Army was entrusted with the responsibility of handling the situation. However, a day earlier, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had appealed to the army for help, but the army refused to intervene. After this, Oli had to resign, and he went to a safe place by helicopter. The protesters have set fire to the Presidential Palace, Parliament, Supreme Court and Prime Minister’s Office. The houses of many ministers were also targeted. They even had to face beatings on the streets.”
Finally, we scanned the account of the user who shared the video with the false claim and found that the user has around 5000 followers.
Conclusion: Vishvas News, in its investigation, found that the viral claim is false. The viral video is not from Nepal but from a demonstration in Indonesia, which is now being shared with a misleading claim linking it to Nepal.
