Fact Check: Tauqeer Raza’s Pro-Yogi Remarks Are Not Recent, Viral After His Arrest
In our investigation, we found that the mentioned video of Maulana Tauqeer praising Yogi Adityanath dates back to 2022, and is now being circulated with a fabricated claim that it is from the period following his arrest.

New Delhi (Vishvas News). Following the Bareilly violence, Maulana Tauqeer Raza, the head of the Ittehad-e-Millat Council (IMC), was arrested by the police. Concurrently, a video of him has gone viral on social media. In the viral video, Maulana Raza can be heard praising Yogi Adityanath.
Maulana Tauqeer is heard stating, “I have my differences with Yogi Adityanath, but if he has done good work, then I will praise him.” Users are sharing this video with assertions that this footage of Maulana Raza is from after his recent arrest, wherein he commended the Yogi government.
Vishvas News, in its investigation, found that this video is old and dates back to 2022. This video is now going viral with the false claim that it was recorded after his arrest.
What is in the viral post?
Sharing the viral post (archive), a Facebook user wrote, “This is the same Maulana from Bareilly who challenged Yogi Ji and got the limbs of thousands of Muslim youth broken… Now he is praising Yogi Ji… The impact of the stick is so immediate, the moment the UP Police’s lathi resonates, Tauqeer Raza’s sentiments change… listen to this share, these are very affectionate words. When love struck, the heart became intoxicated, and when happened, the love was consummated.”
Several X users are also sharing the video with identical claims.
Investigation
Initiating our investigation, we first scrutinised the viral video carefully and found Maulana Raza saying, “Narendra Modi should draw inspiration from the Yogi government on how to uphold ‘Rajdharma’ (the duty of a ruler). Narendra Modi talks about ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ (Collective Efforts, Inclusive Growth), but I will praise the work being done for the betterment of the state; it’s another matter that I have disagreements (Ikhtilafat) with Yogi Adityanath, those remain, but if he has done good work, then I will praise him.”
Taking it as a clue, we commenced our investigation by extracting the keyframes from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search using Google Lens. The search led us to this video on the verified YouTube channel of ‘Kanak News’, uploaded on June 20, 2022, which features Maulana Tauqeer speaking about the ‘Agniveer’ scheme and Nupur Sharma’s arrest. Additionally, the viral clip appears in this video from 7:34-7:58.
We also found the related news on the Times Now website dated June 20, 2022, featuring Maulana Khan demanding the arrest of Nupur Sharma. He alleged that the central government was ignoring the Muslims and warned that they would take the issue to the United Nations. The Maulana praised CM Yogi Adityanath for adhering to ‘Raj Dharma’ and taking action against anti-Muslim activities in Ayodhya. Simultaneously, he opposed the central government’s ‘Agniveer’ scheme, accusing it of ruining the youth’s future. Following Nupur Sharma’s remarks, violent protests erupted in several states, including UP, leading to hundreds of arrests.
On this matter, an ETV Bharat report from June 19, 2022, stated, “In Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, at the Islamia Ground, Ittehad-e-Millat Council (IMC) chief Maulana Tauqeer Raza launched a direct attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Maulana Tauqeer Raza praised the Yogi government. He said that we dislike Yogi’s rule even more than Narendra Modi’s, but Yogi is upholding ‘Rajdharma’. Yogi sent those who were defaming Muslims in Ayodhya to jail. We praise this step of the Yogi government. In every work for peace, we are and will remain with you.”
A Times of India report dated September 28, 2025, stated, “Bareilly police had arrested and sent to jail 15 people involved in stone-pelting and violence during the ‘I Love Muhammad’ protest on Friday. City SP Manush Parikh informed that bricks, stones, empty cartridges, and a pistol were recovered from the accused.”
According to a Dainik Jagran report from September 27, “Following the recent controversy in Bareilly, Ittehad-e-Millat Council (IMC) chief Maulana Tauqeer Raza is back in the headlines. Tauqeer Raza has been arrested by the police, and internet services in the city have been suspended.”
As per an Indian Express report from September 28, “A day after the violence in Bareilly, police arrested Ittehad-e-Millat Council chief Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan and seven others. The local court sent all of them to 14 days of judicial custody. According to the police, the violence had been planned for the past seven days.”
To verify the viral video, we contacted Ashutosh Singh, Editor, Dainik Jagran, Bareilly, who confirmed that the video is old, not recent.
Lastly, we conducted a social scan of the Facebook user who shared the fake post and found that the user, Mishra Suryabhan, has 11000 followers and shares posts associated with a particular ideology.
Conclusion: In our investigation, we found that the mentioned video of Maulana Tauqeer praising Yogi Adityanath dates back to 2022, and is now being circulated with a fabricated claim that it is from the period following his arrest.
