Fact Check: Claim That Nitish Kumar Visited Lalu Yadav Before Taking Oath as Chief Minister Is Fake, Old Visuals Viral
The claim that Nitish Kumar visited Lalu Prasad Yadav’s residence before taking the oath as Bihar’s Chief Minister is false. The viral video and photo are old, from periods when the Grand Alliance was in power and Tejashwi Yadav was Deputy Chief Minister.

New Delhi (Vishvas News). After the NDA formed the government in Bihar, Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister again. Soon after, social media users began sharing videos and photos of Nitish Kumar with RJD chief and former CM Lalu Yadav, claiming he met Lalu at his residence ahead of the oath-taking ceremony.
Vishvas News investigated the claim and found that both the video and the photo are from earlier years. In January 2024, when Tejashwi Yadav was Deputy Chief Minister, Nitish visited Lalu Prasad Yadav’s residence on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. The viral video is from that time. The viral photo dates back to August 2022.

Instagram user ‘pramodrost’ shared a carousel of the video and photos on November 20, 2025 (archive link) with the caption, “Nitish Kumar arrived at Lalu Yadav’s residence before oath-taking. Nitish Kumar will take charge as Chief Minister of Bihar for the tenth time today. He will be sworn in as Chief Minister at Patna’s historic Gandhi Maidan on Thursday at 11:30 am. Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Sinha will be sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers alongside him.”
Investigation
To verify the viral claim, we first searched the video’s keyframes using Google Lens. This led us to a related news report published on Dainik Jagran’s website on January 15, 2024. According to the report, “Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visited former Chief Minister Rabri Devi’s residence on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. He attended a Dahi-Chuda feast hosted by Lalu Yadav. Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav personally welcomed the Chief Minister.”
The same clip appears in a video published on Amar Ujala’s YouTube channel on January 15, 2024.
A reverse search of the viral photo led to an NDTV video report from August 18, 2022, which shows a similar image. The report notes that Nitish visited Lalu at his residence in Patna, accompanied by Tejashwi and Tej Pratap Yadav. Tejashwi also posted photos of this meeting on August 17, 2022.
These findings confirm that neither the video nor the photo is recent.
We conducted a keyword search on Google regarding Nitish’s visit to Lalu’s residence before the latest swearing-in ceremony, as it would have likely appeared in the media, but found no credible report.
To verify further, we contacted Prashant Kumar, a reporter at Dainik Jagran, Patna, who confirmed that Nitish did not visit Lalu’s residence before taking the oath.
According to a report published in the Patna edition of Dainik Jagran on November 21, 2025, “Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the 10th time at the swearing-in ceremony held at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several Union Ministers, and Chief Ministers of several BJP states were also present.”
The account that shared the misleading claim has around 1.11 lakh followers and appears to be driven by a specific ideology.
Conclusion: The claim that Nitish Kumar visited Lalu Prasad Yadav’s residence before taking the oath as Bihar’s Chief Minister is false. The viral video and photo are old, from periods when the Grand Alliance was in power and Tejashwi Yadav was Deputy Chief Minister.
