Fact Check: Mamata Banerjee’s Kolkata Rally Mislabelled Online As A ‘Vote Chori Yatra’ In Patna

New Delhi (Vishvas News). After the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections and Nitish Kumar was sworn in as Chief Minister for a second term, a video showing a massive crowd on the streets began circulating on social media. Many users claimed it showed people in Patna protesting against alleged ‘vote theft’ following the election results.
Vishvas News investigated the viral claim and found it to be false. The video is actually from Kolkata, West Bengal, where Mamata led a rally protesting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list.
What’s in the viral post?
Instagram user s_ranjan_.01 (archived version) posted the viral video on November 17, 2025, captioning it “VoteTheft Rally in Patna City.”
Investigation
To verify the claim, we extracted key frames from the viral video and searched them using Google Lens. The search led us to the official Trinamool Congress (TMC) YouTube channel, where the same visuals were uploaded on November 5, 2025, as a teaser for a rally led by Mamata in Kolkata on November 4, 2025, against the SIR.
We also found the full video of the rally uploaded on the same channel on November 4, 2025.
We also found multiple news reports confirming the rally. According to an India Today report (Nov 4, 2025), Mamata Banerjee led a massive protest march in Kolkata against the SIR of the voter list.
JK Vajpayee, West Bengal Bureau Chief of Dainik Jagran, also confirmed to Vishvas News that the video is indeed from Kolkata.
The Instagram user s_ranjan_.01, who shared the viral video with a fake claim, has over 300 followers.
