New Delhi, Vishvas News. A dramatic video showing a massive avalanche engulfing a group of people is circulating widely on social media. Captions claim the footage shows a recent, terrifying avalanche in Kashmir.
However, Vishvas News’ investigation has confirmed that the video is fake and was created using Artificial Intelligence (AI). While Kashmir did experience an actual avalanche recently, this viral footage is not from that event.
What is going viral?
An Instagram user ‘newsworld0001‘ shared this video on February 7, 2026, claiming it to be footage of an avalanche in Kashmir.
Investigation
To verify the viral claim, we first searched for media reports related to the recent avalanche in Kashmir. We found an NDTV report mentioning the actual avalanche incident in Sonamarg. According to the report, “An avalanche occurred in Sonamarg on January 27, 2026, which affected some buildings, but thankfully, there were no casualties. However, the actual footage of that incident is completely different from the viral video.”
Upon closely examining the viral video, we noticed several inconsistencies. For example, even as the avalanche approaches very close to the people in the video, they are moving very slowly instead of panicking or running away quickly. We suspected that the video might be AI-generated.
To confirm this, we checked the video using AI detection tools. The Hive Moderation tool indicated a 99.9% probability of the video being AI-generated.
The Undetectable AI tool also suggested a 79% probability of the video being AI-generated.
We also shared the viral post with Azhar Machwe, an expert working in AI technology. He confirmed that AI tools were used to create the video.
The Instagram user ‘newsworld0001’, who shared the viral post, has over 90,000 followers.
Conclusion: Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the avalanche video being circulated as being from Kashmir is entirely AI-generated. Although an avalanche did occur in Kashmir, this viral visual is fake.
