New Delhi (Vishvas News). A cruise ship accident at Bargi Dam near Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, on May 30, 2026, claimed the lives of several people. A video linking it to this incident is now going viral with claims that it is the first cruise accident in Jabalpur. The video shows a boat capsizing, with several people struggling to protect themselves. Many users are sharing it, believing it to be true.
Vishvas News investigated the viral post and found that an old video from Bangladesh is being used to spread confusion by misattributing it to the Bargi Dam disaster. The video has no connection to India
What is the viral post?
Facebook user ‘Lukka Marmat’ posted a video on May 2, 2026, claiming, “The cruise accident in Jabalpur has shocked everyone. 39 people enjoying a cruise at Bargi Dam became victims of an accident when the cruise suddenly started sinking. In this accident, 22 people were rescued, while nine people are reported dead, and the rest are reported missing. Video before the cruise accident surfaced.”

investigation
Vishvas News carefully examined the viral video to investigate. It featured a wooden boat, whereas the Jabalpur accident involved a cruise ship sinking. This raised suspicions about the video’s authenticity. Several key frames were subsequently extracted from the viral video.
During our search, we found the original version of the viral video, uploaded by a Facebook page ’News Report Today’ on December 28, 2025. It was described as being from Bangladesh and states that a boat carrying tourists capsized in Kaptai Lake in the Rangamati district.
During our investigation, we found the same video on an Instagram account, posted on December 25, 2025, with the caption, “A boat capsized in Kaptai Lake in Bangladesh’s Rangamati district.”
The investigation proceeded with keyword searches using the Google Open Search tool. We found a news report on BanglaTribune.com, shared on December 26, 2025, stating that a tourist boat capsized while traveling on Kaptai Lake in Rangamati. The incident occurred shortly before dusk in the Shilcharimukh area of the Rangamati-Barkal Subalong waterway.
To verify further, we contacted Dheeraj Kumar, a senior journalist with Naidunia, Jabalpur, who confirmed that the viral video is not of the Bargi cruise ship accident.
What is the context?
A tragic accident occurred on Apri 30, 2026 in Bargi, near Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, where a cruise accident in Bargi claimed the lives of many people, including children and women. This tragedy occurred due to blatant violations of safety standards during cruise operations.
Lastly, we scanned the Facebook account of the user who falsely claimed the Bangladesh video was viral and found that the user identifies as a resident of Rajasthan and has over 3000 followers.
Conclusion: Vishvas News investigated and confirmed that the viral video is from an accident in Bangladesh. It has no connection to the cruise ship accident in Bargi, near Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.
