New Delhi (Vishvas News). A statement attributed to Gorakhpur Lok Sabha MP and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravi Kishan is currently going viral on social media. A video is being widely shared claiming that MP Ravi Kishan made the viral statement targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and users are sharing it, believing it to be true.

Vishvas News investigated the viral post and found it to be fake. Our investigation revealed that Ravi Kishan’s statement is not attributed to PM Modi, but Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. It is now being deliberately circulated on social media with false attribution to PM Modi.

What is going viral?

On May 24, 2026, Facebook user Shagufa Anha shared a collage of Ravi Kishan’s statement with a video of PM Modi, with the caption, “Ravi Kishan said Modi enjoys being abroad.”

Several other users across different social media platforms are also sharing the viral post with the false claim. View an archived version of the viral post here.

Investigation

We first carefully reviewed the viral video to determine the veracity of the viral post. It became clear that a BJP MP would rarely make such a statement about a leader of his own party. Therefore, we suspected the post to be fake.

As we investigated further, we retrieved several grabs of the viral video. We then searched them using the Google Lens tool. We found the viral statement on Ravi Kishan’s handle, shared on May 23, 2026, with the caption, “Congress should now free its prince, Rahul Gandhi.”

We found a longer version of the viral video on the YouTube channel of Asia Net News Hindi, uploaded on 13 May 2026. At the 4:42 mark, the journalist asks whether Rahul Gandhi has distanced himself from the selection of the CBI Director. Ravi Kishan then says, “Now look, he wants to travel, he enjoys travelling abroad. Every 10-15 days, a week, four days. Even if he comes to Parliament for five minutes, he gets nervous. So let him go, let him be free; he is a free bird. Don’t burden him with anything. He gets stressed. It’s good that he has freed himself. He is a free bird. Why do you people bother him?”

During our investigation, we also found the original video on ANI’s Facebook page, uploaded on May 13, 2026. At the 4:42 minute mark, the reporter asks a question about Rahul Gandhi, following which Ravi Kishan delivers the statement from the viral video.

Our investigation so far has made it clear that Ravi Kishan’s viral statement is not attributed to PM Modi but to Rahul Gandhi.

What is the context?

On May 10, 2026, during a public rally in Hyderabad, PM Modi appealed to the countrymen to abstain from buying gold for a year and to use less cooking oil. The reasoning given was that their imports consume foreign exchange. Since then, the petrol, diesel, and CNG prices have been increased several times in the country. PM Modi visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy between May 15-20, 2026.

To verify further, we contacted Pawan Dubey, personal secretary to MP Ravi Kishan, who confirmed that the viral claim is false. He explained that Ravi Kishan had made the viral statement in response to a question about Rahul, not PM Modi. It is now being shared with the false claim.

Lastly, we scanned the Facebook profile of the user ‘Shagufa Anha’ who shared the viral video and found that the user identifies as a resident of Gaya, Bihar. This account was created in March 2014 and has over 9000 followers.

Conclusion: Vishvas News investigated and found the viral post to be fake. MP Ravi Kishan did not make the viral statement about PM Modi. He actually made a viral statement about Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, which is being circulated with a false claim.
