Fact Check: AI-Generated Image Of Virat Kohli Crying Goes Viral

New Delhi (Vishvas News). After Team India’s thrilling victory over Australia in the Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final, a picture of Virat Kohli in tears has gone viral on social media. The image claims to show Kohli breaking down after his stellar 84-run performance that helped India secure a spot in the final.
However, Vishvas News investigated the viral claim and found it to be false. The image in question is not real but an AI-generated creation.
What is going viral?
Facebook user Cric lover shared the viral picture on March 4, 2025 and wrote in the caption, “Anushka Sharma folded her hands and told the Indian fans that today in difficult times, Virat has scored a half-century for the team, he is shedding tears but no one is congratulating.”

Investigation
To verify the authenticity of the viral image, we closely examined it. We noticed inconsistencies in Virat Kohli’s facial structure. It appeared unnatural. These anomalies raised suspicions that the image might have been AI-generated.
We decided to check the photo on AI image detection tools.
We searched the photo with the help of Hive Moderation Tool first. It showed a 97.6 percent probability of the photo being AI-generated.
We also searched this picture with the help of another tool. We searched the picture with the help of SightEngine. This tool showed a 99 percent probability of the photo being AI-generated.
We shared the viral post with Azahar Machwe, an expert in AI technology, who confirmed that the image is AI-generated. He stated, ‘The image is fake. The BCCI emblem is incorrect, the Puma logo is wrong, and the face is also distorted.’
Finally, we scanned the account of Facebook user ‘Cric lover’ who shared the post with the false claim. We found that the user is followed by more than 1.5 lakh people.
