New Delhi (Vishvas News). As the voting date for the Kerala Assembly elections approaches, all political parties are busy campaigning. In connection with this, a purported photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is rapidly going viral, where he is seen holding some coconuts. Several photographers are also standing nearby. The photo is being shared with the claim that it was taken during PM Modi’s visit for the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections.
Vishvas News investigated and found this claim to be false. The viral image of PM Modi was created using Google AI. The investigation confirmed the detection of ‘SynthID’ in the image.
What is going viral?
Facebook user (archive link) Javed Ahmed shared the viral photo on April 6, 2026, and captioned it, “Apparel Minister – getting the reel made, Keralam – Keralam… is there any bigger actor than him in the whole world?”

Investigation
To verify the authenticity of this image, we searched Google using various keywords. We found no information corroborating the claim. We also used Google reverse image searching, but found no credible news reports supporting the claim. Even after searching PM Modi’s official social media platforms, we found no information regarding the incident. This led us to suspect the image was AI-generated.
To further investigate, we analysed the image with Google’s SynthID detector, which confirmed the detection of SynthIDs in some or all of the images (Very High: SynthID confidence).

SynthID is a tool for watermarking and identifying AI-generated content created by Google’s AI models. This means that whenever a Google AI tool creates an image, SynthID inserts a digital watermark into it. This watermark is invisible to the naked eye, but the SynthID detector detects it.
We also used another tool, Hive Moderation, to verify the photo. This tool also indicated that the photo was 99% AI-generated.

We contacted BJP spokesperson Vijay Sonkar Shastri for more information and he confirmed that opposition parties are sharing such images to tarnish the BJP’s image in the elections. They are creating these images using AI. Similar fake images have also gone viral regarding PM Modi’s visit to Assam.
What is the context?
According to a report published on Dainik Jagran’s website on April 4, 2026, in view of the Kerala Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had held a public meeting there and launched a scathing attack on the Left.
It is noteworthy that the Election Commission has announced the dates for the assembly elections in four states of the country – Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and the Union Territory of Puducherry. On March 15, 2026, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar announced the dates at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. Voting will be held in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry in a single phase on April 9, 2026. Voting will be held in Tamil Nadu in a single phase on April 23, 2026, while in West Bengal, voting will be held in two phases on April 23 and 29, 2026. The results will be announced on May 4, 2026.
In February 2026, the Government of India approved the proposal to officially change the name of the state of Kerala to ‘Keralam’.
Finally, we scanned the Facebook account of the user who shared the photo with the false claim and found that the user describes himself as a resident of Srinagar and has over 1000 followers. He often shares posts of a specific ideology.
Conclusion: Vishvas News investigated and found that the photo of PM Modi holding a coconut is fake. This viral image of PM Modi was created using Google AI.
