Fact Check: Frontline Cover Page Featuring ‘Vijay Wave’ In Tamil Nadu is Fake
Frontline magazine did not publish any such cover page during the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, touting the rise of TVK chief and actor Vijay. The fake cover page being shared on social media is false.

New Delhi (Vishvas News). In the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026, 84.69% voter turnout was recorded on April 23, 2026. Ahead of the polling, a social media post shared an alleged cover page of Frontline magazine, featuring a picture of a crowded rally of South Indian actor and Tamilga Vetti Kazhagam (TVK) chief Joseph Vijay and described it as a ‘Vijay Wave’. Tamil Nadu is witnessing a new political force after five decades, which has put the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in trouble.
Vishvas News investigated and found the viral cover page to be fake. The magazine did not publish a cover featuring the ‘Vijay Wave’. The latest issue of the magazine is about health.
What is the viral post?
X user, ‘Dr. Ravishankar Sadasivam’ (Archive Link), posted the viral image on April 22, 2026, with the caption, “The wave is real. It has sustained till the elections. I was also one of those who believed that it would drop to under 15% as the election nears, but it is actually remaining the same massive number. The only thing that remains to be seen is if it’s a tsunami. Vijay will win many seats, and he is certainly a contender for the top post in a 3 cornered fight. He draws the largest spontaneous crowd after MGR in TN electoral history. The crowd will certainly vote for him. It’s childish to be in denial.”
The alleged cover page carries a photo of the rally. It reads, “Vijay Wave after five decades, Tamil Nadu is witnessing a new political force that has shattered the traditional two-party politics and upended the state’s entrenched DMK and AIADMK.”
Investigation
To verify the viral claim, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords. A post from Frontline’s X handle on April 22, 2026, clarified that the cover page is fake and was not published by Frontline magazine. It is being falsely spread online by ‘TVK’ supporters.
After this, we checked the Frontline website and did not find any edition with this cover page.
This made it clear that the magazine had not published any such cover page.
We then searched the viral image using Google Lens. We found the viral image uploaded to the account of Instagram user ‘vijayfanspage‘ on April 14, 2026. The full image can be seen there. Several other photos have also been posted alongside it, which appear to be from the same rally.
‘Tamil Filmi Beat’ also uploaded this photo in a report dated April 15 2026. According to the report, Vijay campaigned in constituencies including Coimbatore, Avinashi, and Tiruppur.
Facebook user ‘Vijay The No:1 Hero in South India‘ posted the viral image along with some other photos from the rally on April 14, 2026. The ‘Hari Bhavanam’ board is visible in these photos.
Its location on Google is mentioned as Avinashi, Tamil Nadu.
We checked the viral cover page with the AI detection tool Hive Moderation, which showed a 92% probability of being AI generated.
‘Was It AI’ also flagged this photo as AI generated.
To verify further, we contacted Tamil Nadu journalist Suresh Murthy, who said that Vijay has held rallies in Chennai, Coimbatore, Tirupur, and other places in Tamil Nadu.
What is the context?
According to information shared on the Election Commission of India’s official X handle on April 24, 2026, 84.69% voting was recorded in Tamil Nadu and 91.78% in the first phase of West Bengal elections.
According to a report published on ‘The Hindu’ website on April 22, 2026, Vijay’s party, TVK, is contesting on all 234 seats in Tamil Nadu.
The X user who shared the magazine’s fake cover page has been active since May 2019 and has over 2200 followers.
Conclusion: Frontline magazine did not publish any such cover page during the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, touting the rise of TVK chief and actor Vijay. The fake cover page being shared on social media is false.
