Fact Check: Viral Video Falsely Places Naseeruddin Shah at Jantar Mantar

New Delhi (Vishvas News). The Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi against the NEET paper leak and irregularities in exams has received support from several celebrities. Many have participated in the protest themselves, while others have expressed their support through social media. A viral video claims that Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah also joined the protest at Jantar Mantar.
Vishvas News investigated the viral video and found that it was shot outside Regal Cinema in Colaba, Mumbai. Naseeruddin Shah had gone to attend a film screening there. However, he has released a video on his official Instagram account expressing his support for the student movement.
What is viral?
Social media user ‘Lakhan meena’ shared the viral video (archive link ) on July 20, 2026 and wrote, “Amid the ongoing student protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, Naseeruddin Shah arrived with his sons Imad and Vivaan Shah.
He made no public statement, but stood quietly, leaning against a pole and observing the demonstration. He also watched intently as the students dispersed after the police action. His presence there attracted considerable attention.”
Many other users across different social media platforms have also shared this video with the same claim.

In a viral video, Naseeruddin Shah is seen standing on a crowded street. It is being claimed that this video was shot at Jantar Mantar, where the Cockroach Janata Party is protesting. Our search did not find any news reports mentioning Shah’s participation in the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar. We also found no such information on the Cockroach Janata Party’s official social media handles.
To find the original source of the viral video, we performed a reverse image search using its key frames, but this search didn’t yield any relevant information. A subsequent keyword search led us to an Instagram profile of a user named ‘rajesh.gaur.524’, who had recorded this video himself. According to the information provided in this video, which was shared on July 20th, it was shot in Mumbai.
In one frame of the video, the ‘Regal, Cinema’ cam be seen with a banner for the film ‘Pati, Patni Aur Woh Do.’ An HDFC Bank ATM is also visible next to this building.

To verify this location, we used Google Maps, where it can be clearly identified.

This confirms that the viral video is not from Jantar Mantar in Delhi, but from Mumbai.

We contacted several journalists covering the Jantar Mantar protest in Delhi to verify the viral video. Lokmat’s Mojo journalist Vikas Kumar said, “Naseeruddin Shah has not visited Jantar Mantar so far. However, he has expressed his support for the protest.”
Another independent journalist covering the protest, Nitesh Tiwari also said, “Naseeruddin Shah has not visited Jantar Mantar yet. However, he has expressed his support for the movement through a video statement.”

The Cockroach Janata Party is protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi against the NEET paper leak and alleged irregularities in exams. The protesters are demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and reforms to the examination system.
The movement has received tremendous support from many prominent figures from Bollywood, social media, and the socio-political sphere. Some celebrities have joined the protests on the ground, while others, including Naseeruddin Shah, have expressed their support through social media.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a post on X, announced the establishment of fast-track courts to expedite the prosecution of those responsible for paper leak cases. He said, “Instructions have been issued to ensure that the relevant departments take the necessary action.”
According to a Business Standard report, “The announcement comes at a time when protests are being held across the country, led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), over alleged irregularities in the NEET exam.”
