Fact Check: Video Of Woman Crying During Police Lathicharge Is Falsely Shared As RJD Spokesperson Kanchana Yadav

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video showing a police lathi charge and a woman crying loudly is being shared widely on social media ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, claiming that the woman is Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) spokesperson Kanchana Yadav.

Vishvas News investigated the viral post and found it to be fake. The woman in the video is not Kanchana. The video is from Maddur, Karnataka, where police resorted to lathicharge following stone pelting during a Ganesh immersion procession. The woman seen crying is identified as Jyoti, a resident of Maddur. 

What is going viral?

Facebook user ‘News Ninety Two‘ shared the viral video on September 23, 2025 (archived link), with the caption, “Police lathi-charged RJD spokesperson Kanchana Yadav. This viral video is said to be from Bihar.”

Investigation

To verify the claim, we extracted several key frames from the video and conducted a Google Lens search. This led us to a video on Dainik Jagran’s official YouTube channel, uploaded on September 8, 2025, which stated, “The video is from Mandya, Karnataka, where a tense situation arose after a clash between two groups during Ganesh immersion. According to reports, police resorted to a lathi charge at the scene. During this incident, several photos and videos went viral.” It did not mention that the woman in the video was Kanchana Yadav.”

We also found a related report on kannada.news18.com, published on September 11, 2025, which stated, “Miscreants pelted stones at a procession passing by a mosque during Ganeshotsav in Maddur. Following this, Hindu organisations, the public, BJP leaders, and workers protested in Maddur. During this protest, police lathi-charged Jyoti, who was part of the protest. Jyoti sat on the road, writhing in pain. Jyoti angrily declared that she would file a complaint against the police who carried out the lathi-charge. Now, an FIR has been filed against Jyoti, the victim of the lathi-charge.”

A related report was also found on a YouTube channel called Trivarna News, uploaded on September 9, 2025, which identified the woman seen crying during the lathi-charge as Jyot and the video to be from the Ganesh Chaturthi immersion procession in Maddur, Mandya district.

To verify further, we contacted RJD spokesperson Kanchana Yadav for confirmation. She stated, “The woman in the video is not me. The video is of another woman from Karnataka. The video is being shared with a false claim in my name.”

Finally, we scanned the user who shared the video and found that the user has around 19000 followers.

Conclusion: Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the viral video showing a woman crying during a lathi charge does not feature RJD spokesperson Kanchana Yadav. The woman in the video is Jyoti, a resident of Maddur. This video is from a police lathi charge that occurred during a protest rally following alleged stone-pelting at a Ganesh immersion procession in Maddur in September 2025. This clip is now being falsely shared with claims linking it to Kanchana Yadav and Bihar.
