Fact Check: Viral Clip Of Asaduddin Owaisi Allegedly Celebrating Waqf Bill Passage Is Misleading; It Is From JPC Meeting

The viral video with this claim is from a breakfast meeting held months earlier, following a JPC meeting in which the draft report of the bill was accepted before it was passed by the parliament.

New Delhi (Vishvas News): After the Waqf (Amendment) Bill was passed by both Houses of Parliament and received the President’s approval, it has now officially become a law. In this context, a video clip began circulating on social media, featuring members of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), including AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, laughing and joking over tea. The video claims that Owaisi was celebrating the bill’s passage with BJP MPs.
Vishvas News investigated the claim and found it to be fake. The viral video is from several months before this bill was passed, when the members of the JPC had accepted the draft report on the bill. In fact, Owaisi had strongly opposed the bill and even tore a copy of it in the House, as a form of protest.

Social media user ‘Abhi Ghosh‘ has shared the viral video with the caption, “*On the other side, BJP got the Waqf bill passed*
*And here Owaisi is sitting with BJP leaders, eating food and laughing loudly*
*Is Owaisi celebrating the passing of the Waqf Bill?* 
At the time of the investigation, the video clip had garnered over 32000 views.
Investigation
A reverse image search of the key frames from the viral led us to the original clip on the official X handle of news agency PTI, shared on January 29, 2025.
According to the available information, this video features the members of the JPC on the Wakf (Amendment) Bill meeting having tea after the draft report was accepted.
Several other news agencies have also shared this video clip in the same context.
On April 2, Kiren Rijiju introduced the Muslim Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, an amendment to the Muslim Waqf Act, 1923.
According to news reports, the bill was discussed for over 12 hours in the Lok Sabha before being passed. It received 288 votes in favour and 232 votes against.
Following its passage in the Lok Sabha, the Rajya Sabha also approved the bill the next day, on April 4.
With the President’s approval, the amendment bill has now officially become law.
The President gave his assent to the bill on April 6, 2025. We also found a video clip of Owaisi speaking on the bill in the Lok Sabha, where he is seen tearing a copy of the bill in protest.
Our investigation confirms that the Waqf Amendment Bill (now law) was passed by the Lok Sabha on April 3, followed by the Rajya Sabha on April 4, 2025. In contrast, the viral video of Owaisi dates back to January 29, which is related to the meeting of the JPC constituted to review the bill.
To verify it further, we contacted Deepak Ranjan, a journalist covering Parliament for PTI-Bhasha. He confirmed that the footage is not from after the Waqf (Amendment) Bill was passed in Parliament, but from a breakfast meeting following the JPC meeting.
