Fact Check: Viral Video Of Shah Rukh Khan Saying ‘Pakistan Win Feels Like My Father Won’ Altered

The video clip of Shah Rukh Khan going viral with the claim that his father was happy when Pakistan won is an altered video clip. Shah Rukh Khan had said that his father is from Pakistan and his mother is from India and that is why when the Pakistan team wins, he feels that his father's side wins, while India's side wins, it looks like his mother's side won.

New Delhi (Vishvas News): As Shah Rukh Khan’s new movie ‘Pathan’ is all set to hit the theatres next month, a video clip is being circulated where he could be heard saying Pakistan’s victory in a match feels like his “father won”. In the viral video, King Khan, as he is popularly known, can be heard saying, “Main bhi ek pathan hoon. Jab Pakistan jeetta hai toh mujhe lagta hai mere walid jeet gye. (I am also a pathan. When Pakistan wins, it feels like my father won.)”

However, Vishvas News, Jagran New Media’s fact-check team, found out that the clip was misleading. The clip that is going viral is quite old and only a part of a longer video is being shared on social media. In the full version of the video, Shah Rukh Khan had said that his father was from Pakistan, hence, when Pakistan wins it seems that his walid’s (father) side has won, and when India wins then it seems like his ammi’s (mother) side has won.

Claim:

Social media user ‘Arvind Rocky’ shared the video (archive link) with an appeal to boycott the film ‘Pathan’, writing, “‘I am also a Pathan, when Pakistan wins, I feel that my father wins.’ – Shah Rukh Khan.” The user further said, “I have heard that his movie ‘Pathan’ is coming, for which he has gone to mata rani’s court to make it successful.”

Several other users have shared the same video clip with identical claims. However, the context of SRK’s statement has not been revealed in the edited clip.

Investigation:

In the viral video, Shah Rukh Khan can be seen hosting an event organised for cricketers from India and Pakistan, in which he is saying, “…I want to tell you one thing. My father was actually from Pakistan, Peshawar. I am also a Pathan..I don’t look like one. My health does not remain so good, but I am also a Pathan. My height and weight is a little less…. And this is not to create any controversy, but when you (Pakistani Team) win, then it feels like walid’s side has won.”

A keyword search of ‘Shahrukh Khan Peshawar Pathan Pakistani Cricketer’ led us to a video clip uploaded around 13 years ago on a YouTube channel called ‘786iqra’. On listening to the video, the full context of the viral video clip is revealed.

Watching and listening to the video from the 0.54 second frame makes the whole thing clear. Shahrukh says………..one thing I want to tell you guys. My father is actually from Pakistan….from Peshawar. I am also a Pathan..I don’t think so. My health remains unwell, but I am also a Pathan. Thodi hight wait kam hai meri….and this is not to create any controversy but when you (Pakistani team) people win, it seems that Waleed’s side has won.”

From our investigation it is clear that the video clip of Shah Rukh Khan going viral is an altered video clip.

We contacted Mumbai-based senior film journalist Parag Chhapekar regarding the viral clip. He said, “This is a video of a very old programme and Shah Rukh Khan did not say in the program that his father is happy when Pakistan wins. This is a case of blatant propaganda and such trolling has become common on social media, when people make a part of an old video clip viral in such a way that its meaning becomes a disaster.”

The user who shared the viral video with the false claim has a following of over 5,000 people on Facebook and the profile is ideologically inspired.

Conclusion: The video clip of Shah Rukh Khan going viral with the claim that his father was happy when Pakistan won is an altered video clip. Shah Rukh Khan had said that his father is from Pakistan and his mother is from India and that is why when the Pakistan team wins, he feels that his father’s side wins, while India’s side wins, it looks like his mother’s side won.
