Fact Check: Viral Video On Illegal Madrasa Action Misleading; Incident Predates Waqf (Amendment) Act

New Delhi (Vishvas News): The Central Government has implemented the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025, which is currently being challenged in the Supreme Court. Amid this, a video is circulating on social media, featuring police action against a madrasa. The video is being shared with the claim that the action took place in Uttar Pradesh following the passage of the Waqf Bill.
Vishvas News investigated the video and found it is from Bhagwanpur Tehsil in Uttarakhand and predates the passing of the Waqf Bill in both Houses of Parliament. Therefore, the claim associating the video with UP is false and misleading.
What is in the viral post?
Facebook user MD Rehan Ali Aimim posted this video (archive link) on April 7, 2025, with the caption,
“After the Waqf bill was passed, trends emerged showing madrasa actions starting in UP. This video serves as a lesson for those who believed nothing would change with the Waqf bill.”
Investigation
After extracting the key frame from the viral video and conducting a Google Lens search, we found a Facebook post by user Shahzad Alam, shared on March 23, 2025. The post states that the action was taken against the madrasa in Uttarakhand’s Tehsil Bhagwanpur.
Facebook user Uttarakhand Time TV also shared the viral video on March 22, 2025 describing it as an action taken by the Bhagwanpur Tehsil administration.
On March 22, a related news report was published on the ‘Bhagwanpur Express News’ YouTube channel, which stated that “The Dhami government is taking action against illegal madrasas in Uttarakhand. Madrasas running without registration in Bhagwanpur tehsil have also been sealed. In this, SDM Bhagwanpur is saying that investigation of unregistered madrasas is going on. Such madrasas are being sealed and the children studying in them are being shifted to nearby schools.”
A video report on the ongoing action against illegal madrassas in the state was also uploaded on the YouTube channel of DD News Uttarakhand on March 26, 2025.

Devendra Sati, the editor-in-charge of Dainik Jagran Dehradun, confirmed that the viral video is from Uttarakhand and is related to the ongoing action against illegal madrasas in the state.
According to the news published on Amar Ujala’s website on April 8, “The Waqf Amendment Act has come into force across the country from April 8. This bill was approved in the Lok Sabha on April 3 and in the Rajya Sabha on April 4. The President gave his assent to this bill on April 5. A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against the Waqf Act.”
This confirms that the video showing action against an illegal madrasa in Bhagwanpur Tehsil of Uttarakhand predates the passing of the Waqf Bill in both the Houses of Parliament.
We scanned the profile of the user who shared the video with the false claim and found that the user identifies as a resident of Saharanpur and is influenced by a specific ideology.
