New Delhi (Vishvas News): Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently attended the G7 Summit held in Canada. Now, a video has gone viral on social media showing a man being handcuffed and taken away by the police. Many users are sharing this clip, claiming it shows a recent arrest of a Khalistani protester in Canada linking it to PM Modi’s visit.
Vishvas News investigated the viral claim and found it to be fake. The viral video is not from Canada but from New York, USA where in September 2024, the police arrested a Khalistani protester during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the United States.
What is in the viral claim
Facebook user ‘Vishwaguru Akhand Bharat‘ shared the viral video (archive link) on June 11, 2025 and wrote, “There’s something unique about PM Modi… On the flip side, in Canada, the beating of Khalistanis began ahead of the G7 conference.”
Investigation
To verify the video, Vishvas News extracted keyframes and ran a reverse image search on Google. The same clip was used in a report published by CNN-News18 on YouTube on September 23, 2024. The report stated that during PM Modi’s three-day visit to the US, Khalistani protesters were arrested in New York.
Upon doing a keyword search, we found news articles from September 2024, including one by The Economic Times, which featured a screenshot from the same video and confirmed that the arrest took place in New York, not Canada.
To verify whether any such arrest occurred during PM Modi’s recent Canada visit, we searched for relevant news reports using keywords. While multiple reports confirmed that Khalistani supporters staged protests, no credible source reported any arrest.
For further clarity, Vishvas News contacted Baljinder Singh, the Canada correspondent of Punjabi Jagran. He confirmed that no Khalistani protester was arrested during the Prime Minister’s recent visit.
Facebook page ‘Vishwaguru Akhand Bharat’, which shared the misleading post, has over 250,000 followers and has a history of posting politically charged content.
