Fact Check: Traffic Fines Will Not Increase From March 1, 2025 – Viral Claim Is Misleading
Vishvas News investigated and found the viral post to be misleading. Traffic fines in Delhi have not been increased since March 1. The Motor Vehicles Act was amended in 2019 when the fines were revised. No changes have been made since then.

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A post claiming an increase in the rates of traffic challans in Delhi is going viral on social media. Many users, considering it to be recent, are sharing it while criticising the current government of Delhi.
Vishvas News conducted a detailed investigation and found the claim to be misleading. Our investigation revealed that on September 1, 2019, the Central Government implemented 63 provisions of the Motor Vehicles Amendment Act, 2019. No new amendments have been implemented since then.
What is going viral?
Facebook user ‘Bebak Charcha’ posted on March 10, 2025 claiming, “Traffic challan rates have increased in Delhi. Drive carefully.”

Investigation
To verify the claim, Vishvas News used the Google Open Search Tool to conduct a keyword search, however, we did not find any credible news report confirming the viral claim. If such a significant decision had been made in Delhi, it would have been widely covered by the media. This confirms that the viral post is misleading.
During our investigation, we found a six-year-old news report on Bhaskar.com stating that on September 1, 2019, the central government implemented 63 provisions of the Motor Vehicles Amendment Act, 2019. However, Congress-ruled Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Punjab along with the governments of West Bengal and Telangana, did not implement the new law.

During our investigation, we found a press note on the PIB website dated August 28, 2019. It stated that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had notified the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Amendment Act 2019, which came into effect on September 1, 2019. These provisions did not require any further amendments to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989.
Vishvas News conducted a detailed investigation on X and found old posts related to this on PIB India and DD News. A post by PIB India on August 1, 2019, provided detailed information about the revised traffic fines. Similarly, on September 1, 2019, DD News posted that the Motor Vehicle Amendment Act 2019, came into effect and the violators would face a fine of Rs 5000 for jumping the red light, Rs 10000 for drunk driving, and Rs 5000for driving without a valid driving license.
The investigation so far has confirmed that the changes in traffic challan fines were made in 2019.
To verify further, Vishvas News contacted VK Shukla, Chief Correspondent of Dainik Jagran, Delhi. He confirmed that the viral post is false and stated that no changes in the Motor Vehicles Act have been made since 2019.
Additionally, Vishwas News contacted Noida DCP Traffic, Lakhan Singh Yadav, who also confirmed that this information is old. He stated that no recent changes related to the fine have been made and the revision in fines took place in 2019.
Lastly, we investigated the Facebook account of the user ‘Bebaak Charcha’ who posted the viral post and found that the user is described as a resident of Rudrapur with over11000 followers.
Conclusion: Vishvas News investigated and found the viral post to be misleading. Traffic fines in Delhi have not been increased since March 1. The Motor Vehicles Act was amended in 2019 when the fines were revised. No changes have been made since then.
