New Delhi (Vishvas News): The Punjab government has removed the farmers who had been protesting at Shambhu and Khanori border for a year. Amid this, a video of the Punjab Police has gone viral, featuring a policeman slapping a woman and then running away. It is being claimed that the video is recent and shows police deployed to remove the protesting farmers.
Vishvas News investigated and found the viral claim misleading. The video is not recent but dates back about two years. It captures an incident where a policeman slapped a woman during protests against land acquisition. At that time, the administration took action and suspended the policeman.
What is going viral?
On March 19, 2025, a Facebook user shared the viral video with the caption, “On Kejriwal’s Punjab police giving MSP to a woman farmer… the dictator is Modi ji.”

Investigation
To verify the viral claim, we extracted several key frames from the video and conducted a Google reverse image search. This led us to a report on the official website of ABP News, published on May 18, 2023. According to the report, “The video is of an incident that took place in Gurdaspur district of Punjab. Actually, farmers protested against land acquisition on the Delhi-Katra National Highway. After which the police raided Bhamri village of Sri Hargobindpur block of Gurdaspur district. During the raid, a policeman slapped a female farmer.”

According to a report published on the PTC website on May 18, 2023, a policeman slapped a woman and after the video went viral, action was taken, and he was reassigned. Regarding this matter, the SSP of Batala had said that the accused officer had been removed from duty, and a departmental inquiry had been initiated against him.
Based on the information received, we conducted a Google search with relevant keywords and found a related report on the Navbharat Times website, published on May 18, 2023. According to the report, after the video went viral, opposition parties criticised the Bhagwant Mann government over the incident.
According to a report published on Punjab Kesari’s website on April 18, 2023, land was being acquired on the Bharat Mala project Delhi-Katra National Highway. Farmers claimed that the district administration did not pay the compensation fairly, with only a few receiving the payment, which led to their protest.
To verify further, we contacted Sunil Thanewale, a journalist from Dainik Jagran in Gurdaspur district. He confirmed that the viral video is not recent but dates back about two years.
Finally, we scanned the account of the user who shared the video with the misleading claim and found that the user has described himself as a resident of Delhi and is inspired by a specific ideology.
